Mobil 1 Gear Oil

I'm about to change the differential oil and I looked the avaiable gear oils at AZ. I noticed the 75w140 had SuperSyn, while the 75w90 did not have any reference to SuperSyn. Also, the 75w140 was twice the price.

What is SuperSyn and why is the 75w140 twice the price?

SuperSyn was MObil's standard line of PAO's. Don't concern yourself too much over the labels.

Their advanced line of Group IV's are SpectraSyn:

1. SpectraSyn Plus - 3.6 to 6 cSt - premium low viscosity products

2. SpectraSyn - 2 to 100 cSt PAO for thermal and oxidative stabilibity

3. SpectraSyn Ultra - High Viscosity (150 - 1000 cSt) and Very high viscosity index (VHVI) PAO's with special viscoelastic properties.

Every gear oil I have ever seen, except Royal Purple, the 75w140 is more expensive than the 75w90. So don't be too shocked that M1 75w140 costs more than M1 75w90.

Maybe someone can tell me why one gear oil viscosity costs more than the other?
