epa is 24/31=26

What site are you guys going to that calculates the average fuel economy you're getting?

revised EPA estimated when new mileage was 16 in the city

I get 20mpg the last two tanks on city driving

also the new hwy rating is 24mpg....... I think that is a little low, I have gotten 28-30mpg before on just highway driving, as do many other SHO owners, some have seen 32mpg before on a tank

the original EPA ratings where 18, 21, 26 which seems closer to real life

I have a 2001 Intrepid with 2.7 V6. This car has always beat the EPA estimates for gas mileage - by a significant margin. About the only way I can get the mileage to fall enough to come close to the original estimates is to do short trip driving in the winter, which includes warm-ups of a few minutes in the driveway.

In the summer during good long runs on the highway at 65 - 70 mph I repeatedly get 31.5 - 33 mpg. I think the original estimate for highway was around 27 or 28 mpg.

The car currently has just over 435,000 km (270K miles) on it and it just keeps going. Original engine.

Same thing with the WS6. I have seen 30 mpg on the highway in 6th gear going 70. Even after the modifications I can still pull down an honest 26 MPG on the Highway with a 228 230 .571 .592 at 112 LSA cam and bunch of other stuff.
The Buick and the Equinox always do about 2 to 3 mpg better than what they are rated.

The Truck I don't even bother to monitor. I think I pull down right about 8 to 10 mpg Towing, coasting, idling, powering up hill, enigne off rolling down hill...you get the picture.

I drove for half of one tank, varying speeds between 60-70 for break-in. Got 26.5 at fill-up, "new" EPA rating is 20/27 hwy.

CR said they got 32 during their highway testing, so I am sure the mileage would be a lot better if I had maintained a constant speed.

The government posts their ratings at EPA: Fuel Economy. In each car screen they have an adjustable city highway estimator.

Since all of the potential answers to your question seem obvious to me I'll continue...

Calculating your own fuel economy is simply miles divided by gallons. Your trip odometer keeps track of the miles. A GPS or stopwatch can be used to calculate a correction factor if you have wrong size tires. The gas pump shows the gallons. That's the average. Get a receipt at the station and write the mileage on it and you can work the numbers in a spreadsheet when you have the ambition.

Once you learn how driving style and temperature affect the averages you can calculate averages from your long trips and short trips to get highway and mixed or city. With enough data you can work out fair and accurate winter/summer, city/highway/average mileage.

Or you can buy a Scangauge which does most of the work for you.

I've been consistently getting about 20MPG with about 80% city/country driving. It's winter, and I'm a pretty heavy footed driver, especially with how slow this thing can be. It's rated for 21city/29hwy/24com

My car is rated at 24 city and 32 highway, and in winter I'm getting pretty much the same, but during summer I beat these estimates quite easily, I get about 28 city and 37-39 highway with AC on.

Funny, if you look at Canadian estimates, my car is rated at 25.8 city and 36.6 highway (converted from L/100KM), which seems closer to summer mileage.

So, during winter I get close to EPA rating and during summer I get close (I actually beat it slightly) to Canadian estimate, if others could compare their summer and winter mileage to these two estimates, and if they are similar, maybe these two estimates, used in conjunction, can be a pretty accurate indication of gas mileage for winter and summer.
