RAV4 dethrones F150 as best selling car (vehicle) in the U.S.

I'm very surprised by two things, the Model Y being so high, and no Honda Accords. I don't see many Model Ys around, but see plenty of Xs.

With Toyota having the RAV4, Camry, and Corolla in this top 10 list, they have to be # 1 or # 2 in sales in the US.

You can 179 an X but not a Y.

#1 for 16 of the last 17 years, 13 consecutive years.
Camry number one passenger car in America for the 23rd consecutive year
Tacoma number one small pickup in America for the 20th consecutive year
RAV4 best-selling SUV in the U.S. for the 8th consecutive year

Got me a 2024 Rav4 Prime to add to that stat. Everyone's talking about the Chiefs chance at a 3 Peat. Toyota has a 5 Peat secured selling the most vehicles globally in 2024. I also hear they are operational in North Carolina in April at their 7 million square foot, 14 manufacturing lines - battery plant that cost $13.9 Billion and will employ 5,100 locals.

Is that for their rumored Solid State Battery plant ?

still ?
The guts are the same as the GM trans.

Yes and no. The Hard parts are made by different suppliers-there are other tweaks. The software tuning is totally different. The behavior of the 10 speed in the Silverado isn't any where close to that in the F-150s.

I owned both back to back-so I have a little perspective here.

The Silverado was a CPO-it's got a power train warranty out to 100,000 miles.
I didn't dig deep enough before the purchase of the F150-that's on me. But I did dig deep enough to feel comfortable buying the Silverado-but hedged my bet with the CPO warranty.

I towed my 5,000 pound travel trailer up to Leadville, Colorado-10,000 feet elevation during the past summer-it's was 90 degrees. The vehicle performed flawlessly.

What’s the average cost of a RAV compared to the average F150? Maybe the cost of a big ol’ extra cab with leather seats and a sunroof at 10% apr finally became too much to bear? Just spitballing…
I was thinking the same thing. Perhaps the cost of today's pickups are just getting too much.

i don't care either way about the sales numbers, but i am personally responsible for a number of astro vans with GMC emblems on the tailgate ... used to work at baltimore assembly doing trim and sometimes got behind and misread the build sheet.

test drove a brand new gmc jimmy with bow tie steering wheel once too!

Could it be the fact that the "big truck" makers, at Ford and GM got way too greedy for their own good? Maybe they kept on creeping their new truck prices up so high that buyer's common sense + house hold economics finally caught up to them?

Just finished Sunday morning breakfast and had a second look at the new F150s.

My youngest Son is in the military and is scheduled to leave Korea in the next year or two. Although I won't--- I have thought about buying him a brand-new pickup when he returns to CONUS. I currently have three F350s, and an old full frame 2004 Navigator that I use for towing (awesome 32V V8 engine with a rock solid transmission.

My F350s have the 6.2L V8 gas engine, th8 6.8L V10, and the 6.7 diesel. All rock-solid drivetrains. I think the 2V V10 might last indefinitely as long as I change the oil an keep the spark plugs torqued. Essentially simple drivetrains, that with proactive oil changes, can live worry free for many years.

I decided I wouldn't consider a new F150 for my Son. It may be erroneous, but I struggle to embrace the eco-boost, turbos, etc. My desire for a full-size truck is dependability and simplicity. Although it is reported Ford offers the 5.0 V8 in their F150s, most of the F150s are built with smaller displacement turbo engines.

Those smaller displacement full size truck engines may be a match for many- but not a drivetrain that I would ever consider buying. Of course, I know in the no so distant future I there may not be a choice.

It’s like you *just* glanced at my post in “what are you working on today,” thread.

I have been very pleased by so many attributes of my 2018 - handling, quiet, fuel economy. At 77k I’m looking at the 2nd dash off repair, a hard line of transmission troubles, 2 blown coil packs, gear whine, a bad pressure sensor, and recently metal glitter in the oil filter media. I had planned on keeping the truck and getting a smaller DD, but I use the truck, and a DD couldn’t be a full replacement. I don’t want to sell the f150, it’s the first vehicle I’ve really, really liked or wanted to like… but if I’m looking at a transmission replacement and timing set, thats the full KBB value.

We took my wife’s RAV4 to church. While that’s not what I would like to drive daily, preferring a little more capability, neither of us have had one second questionning to its purchase.

I think it's great. Competition is good for the consumer. Let the cute utes sky rocket in price and Ford can slash prices to try to recover some sales.

You're making me really appreciate my '07, rubber-floored 2V 4.6 F150. Presently at 240k (miles of course) and it just never really needs anything ;)

A friend who sells at the GMC dealer says they've gotten Sierras with Silverado badges not that long ago.

I have a 2017 F150 XL that has had no problems at all, outside of a slight oil leak. It’s an NA 3.5, 6 speed transmission and very little extra stuff. It’ll be with ma a long time, as 2018+ seem to be very troublesome.

The Model Y does not surprise me at all! They are everywhere in Washington to include the East side (the desert side, I like to call it the Thunderdome side. I like it out there)
