I just discovered a Rat with a Rat hole in my gangway adjacent to the house.I do have a dog(pet)in the same area.Any suggestions that do not inculed loud noises, projectiles or mushroom clouds?

They have smoke bombs for rodents. Have a plug/rock ready to go and toss that sucker in there

. I have never used one, but it sounds like the ideal solution. Farm supply places have them.

How about a 'rat trap'. Use peanut butter, and learn to set the trap so that it springs easily. Maybe wear some welding gloves while practicing :^)

What is their food source? Could there be more of them than you think? They can be very stealthy and be living in other spots that you may not know about. They are a very lazy creature that like live near a viable food source and basically eat and fornicate (something like me, I suppose). Don't hesitiate to call in a professional to address this issue.

they are probably eating the dog food. you might want to relocate it. be careful with the rat traps; you don't want to find chunks of your dog's nose in there. maybe go with the "catch-and-release" type traps (although how you "release" them is up to you).

pablo has a beaver. maybe you could arrange some type of swap...

If you are cheap: get some cats

If you aren't cheap: Call a professional exterminator before they multiply and then you will have an infestation.

If you have dogs.....feed your dogs just enough food so they don't leave any left overs. Leaving food in their plate will attract raccoons, mice, rats, frogs.....etc, etc.

I forgot what the ratio was, but I think they said for every rat that you see there were a few dozen more. Oh sorry...

Just get rat poison - I had Norway rats take up residence in a brush heap near the house. It stank, but only for a couple of weeks.

Pellet gun. Chair. Cold refreshing beverage. Be still and quiet. Have lots of time.
