Ratchet straps on a gooseneck?

I’m not wild about these ratchet straps with hooks on the end. Maybe I’m just doing it wrong. Anyone replace them with a Clevis? Don’t don’t fit through the 2x4 slots. I’m using axel straps on both ends at the moment but wondering if there’s a better method to go about towing items on the trailer.

What’s the proper method to strap these down? Is using my axel straps the way to go? I’m fearful they’ll rub and snap at some point. If it’s not clear I’m using the axel strap on both ends because of the hooks.

I like the ones that have a D-ring on the strap a little ways away from the hook.

When towing vehicles and such always tie off to the other side ie let to right. This is how I was taught to tie down expensive race cars for hauling.
