:Rant: Where is the plummer?

I have a pipe thats leaking. Normally I'd fix this myself but this pipe comes out of my cement porch and feeds the entire house.

I know that if I break the 70 yr old pipe off that I'm going to have a real problem.

My house was plummed by a Moron. We are on a well and theres no way to turn the water to the house off.

So Tuesday I called a plummer that we deal with at work. They made plans for the next day. They called back and asked if they could bump me up to Saturday morning between 8a and 10a.

That works better for me anyway.

So I got up early and drained my 500 gallon tank and bled the air from my water tank. Got it all drained by 8a.

Waited and waited. 10 came and went. So I tried calling them. All I get is "that persons mail box is full".

I finally refilled the tank with water and air @ 1pm. Now it's after 2p and still no plummer.

No call ........Nothing. Atleast they could call with an excuse. I've wasted the entire day waiting for them. I guess they are not coming.

well dont get to upset maybe something very serious came up? when you talk to him find out what happened and give him one more shot. if he screws that up then find another plumber thats what i would do.

A 500 gallon tank and no main shutoff? That is an unusual system. Sorry for your problems.

around here we usually just have a well and pump with a 20-50gallon pressure tank. So you are saying there is NO shutoff after the pressure tank? ugh.

Does anyone use AngiesList? I have had several houses with wells and the pump is deep in the well with a 50 gallon blue bladder tank in the house.

Make sure when they fix it they install a ball valve as a shutoff. Most houses have a couple of shut off valves. Like one for the first floor and one for the second floor.

Surprised he would blow off a customer that works for a larger business client. Your in a position to teach him a lesson. Talk to your facilities manager, I'm sure he would like to know how unreliable he is. Paybacks a ..you know..

The water comes up 300 ft out of my well. It goes into a 500 gallon sealed tank. This tank is 1/2 air and 1/2 water (or close to it). When the water level drops so does the pressure, when it drops to 20psi the pump comes on and it shuts off @ 40 psi.

The pipe that comes out of the tank is burried underground and goes directly to the house. It comes out of the concrete porch, makes a 90* turn and goes into the wall of the house.

The 90* elbow is where it's leaking.

all I can do to stop the water flow is to remove the air pressure then when I'm done I fill the tank back up with air from my compresser.

You could kill power to the pump. Maybe you need an electrician.

Spend a few extra bucks and have whoever shows up add a couple of ball valves of the right size and good quality at the proper spots. Around these parts we use a tank called a "Well XTROL" , made by Amtrol. Unless you are running an irrigation system or a dairy farm you don't need a very large one.

The pump only runs 1 time per day on a normal day so killing power to it wont do me any good. Theres a flap on the inlet to the tank that keeps the water in the tank from draining back down the well

I called another place and they were here early. The pipe broke like I knew it would but they were equipped to handle this. Never heard from the 1st place.

Well...then you know who to call next time.

I waited for 3 days to hear back from the "factory certified" LG technician to fix our washer. I called and left a voicemail, filled out the on-line service form, followed up when I didn't hear, basically, I did everything to get in touch.

In the meantime, I downloaded the service manual, diagnosed the problem, ordered the parts and they arrived UPS.

As I was installing the new parts, the guy called. Nice guy, but clearly my need for washer repair and clean laundry (with 5 kids in the house at the moment...this is not a something I can wait on...) was not a priority for him.

He will never get my business again.

Follow-up: The nice guy who called back three days after I called him was going to work up an estimate and call me back with that...

The washer is doing its second load of laundry this morning after I fixed it...compared to cars, appliances are simple.

Still wondering what I should say to him on the phone if he does ever call...clearly, he has enough business that he doesn't need mine...

I'd say something like "Can you hold a minute, I think the spin cycle is finished and I need to TAKE THE CLOTHES OUT OF MY WASHER."
