Rant about severely neglected vehicle.

This is how we are are as a country. It's a horror to me! Girl cop I work with I've been close to (friends only) for a decade. Her old man dumped her [censored] and left her with a Polaris from IIRC 2010. He never changed a single fluid...she said he "waits til it breaks." Sick right??

I posted about it on the power thread. I'll change that for her just to make ME sleep better!! Real nice never abused machine and and no fluid change....sick!

I wouldn't do any more than I did to my abused F-150, change oil and add ONLY three quarts(yes it will be three low), run it approx 50-100mi change again and drive it... Worked for me...

This is strong evidence that even with the vehicle technology to the point of monitoring oil change intervals and telling you the driver that it's soon time for a change, it is still ignored and subsequently neglected. Morons.

You have 87,000 miles on it now!

I've actually had clients tell me, "It doesn't need an oil change. It's not running bad."

It was actually a DX model (with A/C and auto) I didn't know they were still making DX models that late. I never see roll up window Accords past CD models.

One of my wife's friends is going through a divorce and her estranged husband is....well, he is an interesting fellow. That's the nicest thing I can say about him.

The car was in poor shape. I really can't help her with the mismatched tires. One good Indonesian Doral. 3 various Chinese tires including a "Mayrun" which might as well read "May Pop"

The car has not seen a bit of maintenance in years. Neither has it even been washed. Dug through my stash and replaced burnt out bulbs, filled virtually every fluid, (that Honda P/S fluid leftover from my Civics and Integra finally came in handy) and fixed the driver's door aftermarket alarm lock actuator.

Still needs brakes and a valve adjustment. Going to do some shopping for her and see if I can pick up pads and a valve cover gasket on the cheap. At least get her to where she can go and stop to get to work and her child to school.

Your story reminds me of when I started seeing my girlfriend. We lived 160 miles apart and would travel to visit every week or every other week. She gets a flat traveling back home (about an hour from me). Once she gets home, a few days later her brother-in-law (the family mechanic) proceeds to tell her the tires she had on her car (which he put on right before the winter) were [censored]. He then "does her a favor" over the weekend and takes her car to work, comes back with 4 new to the car tires, which were really 4 no name used tires. Two were matching, but not on the same axle.

I wish I was a little more handy before than as I should have caught it before it happened. But it still baffles me what some people will do "taking care of" a car.
