Just going by what I can get at my local Autozone. It's for a 2000 Z28. They are all made by Champion Labs. I change my oil/filter every 5K. Used to go with 0W30 Castrol now go with 5W30 since they ran out of the European one.

STP $3.29
Fram $3.79
AC Delco $4
Bosch Premium $6
Mobil 1 $10
K&N $12

I've used pretty much all of them. Just depends on how much money I feel like spending that day. I wanted to get some opinions on which ones are really good, which are just good and which I should stay away from.

The AC is the safe bet for a 5K or less OCI.
The Bosch and the Mobil-1 may filter better but
the AC does the job it needs to do.
Are these oversize filters?

1.Mobil 1 ( basiclly the same filter as K&N 4 less $)
2.K&N (Over priced In my opinion.)
3.Bosch
4.AC Delco (good value 4 the $)
5.Stp
6.Fram (never will use one when i can go to Napa and get a proselect, made by Wix for Napa for less $)

If you are wanting to go with longer change intervals i would go with the Mobil 1 first then K&N, if you are just wanting a good quality conventional filter, STP and AC Delco are good choices.

Does anyone know or can hypothesize the beta raitos/efficiency % for the stp oil filters?

I am in the middle of a study of beta ratios of common filters for 5 different applications to get a reasonable sample size.

Guess what!
With the exception of Wix, all the vendors are not answering my mail on this.

They will, if you keep asking ..it's probably that they don't get many requests for that type of information. Eventually you'll get someone who actually looks it up. Baldwin/Hastings sent Vern (Nebraskan) a data sheet via fax on his B50

Champion Labs does not manufacture Fram or Bosch

No one asked what Champion Labs manufactures, the OP asked for opinions on the lineup of the filters available at his local AutoZone.

Honestly, I'm getting a little sick of seeing the Champion Labs advertisements. There are plenty of people here representing a product they have an interest in (such as our Amsoil representatives) who are fully capable of giving an unbiased opinion, even if it is not endorsing their product. If your only aim is to advertise Champion Labs products, you're doing a dang fine job. If you wish your advice to be taken seriously however, you might want to follow the examples of the above folks I listed. Either way, I'm at least glad you've stopped slamming the competition with facts you can't back up.

I will now digress back to the original topic. For a 5k OCI I recommend:

1) Bosch Premium (excellent filter- not quite as good as the Mobil 1, but will return fantastic results for 5K)
2) AC Delco (also a great filter for the $$)
3) STP (not much different from a Delco, IMO, so buy whichever is cheaper if you go this route)
4) Mobil 1 (great filter but overkill for your application)
5) K&N (also great filter but overkill for your application)
6) Fram (don't pay nearly Bosch prices for something that should cost much less)

Of course, any of these filters will do a great job for what you want them to do. I just put them in the order I would buy them in for a 5k OCI. If I were to run longer, the order would be much different.

Reading spec's and figuring out beta values and how a filter works is not easy because there is no way to correlate all that with on vehicle performance. In other words how do you know if one filter makes any difference in the life of your vehicle vs. another filter? What do you gain going from an STP to an Amsoil ff filter? One thing you loose is money out of your wallet for the difference. In a large fleet operation I've looked at a lot of different filters and there is no way to tell if one works better than another. I've looked at uoa's until I'm blue in the face and there is no clues to be had, even by people much smarter than me. We've swapped filters in vehicles that have a stable life with uoa's and there has never been anything significant. By those numbers you should run the STP and save the money. Problem is I know that and still use the Amsoil filter.

This guy asked for a ranking on these filters and said they were all made by Champion. I was just letting him know who Champ didn't manufacture for. Calm down! I gave him a ranking by what kind of filter he was looking for. Conventional vs. Extended So before you go and be completely irrational again, I want to see some proof of how I advertised for Champ in this post when all he asked for was about Champ filters. I didn't mention anything about the quality of the Fram or Bosch or if I liked them or not, I just answered from my own perspective. Last time I checked, this is what this site is for. And you obviously haven't read any of my posts where I have given other brands numbers out for people. I don't see you downing other people for having favorites brands either, if people weren't allowed to have favorites this wouldn't be America, so if you don't like the way I post, you can: A) get over it, B) not read or take anything I have to say seriously, or C) get off the site, because I'm not leaving. I am knowledgeable in Champ's products and filters in general, and for this to be a "real" forum all brands need to have some kind of representation.
