I've been the recipient of a few random acts of kindness in the past few days, and thought I'd like to publicly (if anonymously) share:

First was a stranger letting me borrow their phone when I was locked out yesterday. BIG thank-you, kind sir!

Next was a guy in a Suburban letting me in during rush hour at an interchange notorious for bad tempers and worse driving habits. That guy saved me from stopping in 60 mph traffic. Thank you, sir!

It's nice to see kind-hearted people are still around these days.

Now to pay a random act of kindness forward...

Those things are hard to find now days...i always help when and where i can.

When I'm in a Tim Hortons drive-thru I will sometimes pay for the order of the car behind me.

Or if I'm in one of my restaurants I will expense somebodies meal.
I like to do this for the elderly or families with young kids.

That's cool. I wish I could afford to do that StevieC.

I try to do things that don't cost me anything, still gives me a good feeling. Lot's of good people in the World.

Tim Hortons is only a couple of bucks, and the meal at my work is because I have an expense account and that kind of thing is encouraged.

But yeah I know what its like to be on a budget... I just moved out and my free rent is gone.

A great thread to read. A real inspiration. Maybe if each of us "paid it forward" like some of you have remarked here, several times each day, we could all live in a better world and have a better life.

The one thing that I miss most from the "olden days" was politeness, manners, and civility coming especially from persons old enough to know better. I remember very well moving to the South from New England at age 10, and teachers remarking to me (at times) that I was rather rude, and un-mannered...after a considerable time, I caught on. Eventually, I did come to believe that manners and politeness were among the great social lubricants when interacting with others.

SaturnIonVue. I totally agree and this is why I do that and I respect everyone with the decency of good manners.

Plus it's because I'm Canadian

and we are just like that I guess.

I've done a few, & received a few. And speaking of Canadians, Steve-

Several years ago(5?), spotted a good deal online for cheap but nice replacement grips for the S&W J-frame, square butt. Perfect for my S&W Model 63 Stainless Kit Gun, right? I ordered some for myself- several sets in fact- & posted about it in one of the gun forums, 22s or something.

A few days later I got a PM from someone on the forums. He lived in Canada, had a blue-steel S&W Kit Gun(Model 34?), and the company wouldn't ship to Canada, or charged some awful $$ to ship there or something. Would I please consider ordering a set for him & then send it on privately- he'd gladly pay for everythig reasonable.

I'd bought these grips for about $5/set- so I sent back a msg, saying I'd ordered several sets of 2 styles, what did he want? Anyhow, I sent him a pair as soon as I got his mailing address, told him look 'em over when they get there make sure they're OK. He seemed floored that someone would send him something like that with no $$ first. I figured that for a about $10 total on my end I couldn't lose much & it would save time. He got 'em, & was delighted even though that style needed a little fitting for his gun as well as mine. Sent me back a Canadian Postal MO which turned out to be difficult to cash but that sure wsn't his fault, & finally got it done without too much trouble. Worked fine for us both, I thought nothing more about it.

*Break*

RE: The S&W .22 LR Kit guns, 4" barrel- if you really want an exercise in futility, or severly overpriced goods, just *TRY* to find a good quality, custom fit holster for a S&W 4" J-Frame. Not for a snubbie, not for a 3" Chief Special- an honest to goodness 4" J-Frame holster. I wore out the internet for about a year back then- & except for a couple of Ebay auctions that went for over $100, never saw anything. They seemed gone from the market by then, & I finally gave up.

*Resume Story*

About 2 weeks later I got an email from him, said a little surprise was on the way. Nope, no hints or anything. It arrived about ten days after the email. (Later, he told me He'd seen some of my old posts in that forum about holster-hunting. And in Canada, by then, he said that while he could legally own the Kit Gun, and shoot it at a range, he couldn't carry it in the woods anymore. Couldn't carry it in *what*, you may ask?)

He sent me- free of any charge at all- a Lawrence brand, lined leather holster, right-side carry, forward rake, made *specifically* to fit the S&W 4" kit guns. Looks just like a smaller version of a very popular model Lawrence & others made back then for the S&W Model 19/66 4" .357 revolvers. It was, and is still, in beautiful condition, with only a little shallow cracking on top of the spring-loaded keeper strap. For those of you who are unfamiliar with Lawrence, they're out of business now, but made first-rate holsters.

He wouldn't take any $$ for it, I offered! All I could do was offer my profound & humble thanks. So far, in the past 5 yrs or so, 3 people have seen me with that gun & holster, and *All* have tried to buy that holster.

But it ain't for sale- and it ain't gonna *Be* for sale, either.

Hmmm. I'd consider doing this if the occupant(s) in the car were hot (is it just me?).

My boy and I were driving around after a snowstorm several years ago. We saw an old woman starting to clear her driveway. We stopped and offered to do it for her. We were done and on our way in about five minutes. She was pretty tickled about it.

I also sometimes pay for somebody's Wal-Mart bill or grocery store bill, take back shopping carts for old folks, and assist folks with things they obviously know nothing about.

Karma Patrol, at the ready!

I try to do lots of acts of kindness- my kids and I shovel sidewalks, mow lawns, lift heavy things for our neighbors.

StevieC- I once had a gentlemen come and take our bill at a restaurant. I protested (I have 6 kids so the bill was over $100). He persisted and said it was an expense account for him. Was great to see the kids feel like other people do nice things too.

I believe in Karma. I do nice things everyday.. especially when driving.

Last week I helped an old lady put a flat screen tv in her Geo Metro. No one would help her.

I will pat myself on the back; earlier this week I installed wiper blades on an old guy's Honda in the parking lot because the store indicated "They couldn't touch his car" He got the old ones off, but couldn't get the new ones on. He seemed a bit distraught.

4 minutes of my time.

I wouldn't call it random, but when someone hits me up for money on the street, I won't hand them money, but I'll offer to buy them a meal.

The ones who really need it never say no. The ones hustling for their next bottle seldom say yes.
