Yeah I don't understand how the Cherokee isn't affected. It's tank is right in the rear too.

Except it does not help all the much. Some of the Jeep Grand Cherokees that have been involved in a rear end collision and a fire had a trailer hitch.

Maybe a skid plate would be the solution.

How about that switch my 1991 Ford Escort Wagon used to have. Some kind of button, where, if pressed accidentally, would disable fuel to the engine, and would leave you stuck, trying any and everything to start the car.. until the circuit was turned back on.

As annoying and terrifying as that was on a road trip when tripped accidentally, I think that would do a pretty good job of keeping fuel from actively going to the engine if you got slammed in the back by another car or truck of some sort.

The Jeep issue is puncturing a plastic gas tank between the bumper and axle dumping gas all over.

Do you already have a hitch on yours? If not if its under the recall it might be nice to get a free hitch.

I have a Curt add-on hitch sitting in a box. I was going to tow with the Jeep, then got a pickup.

The factory hitch was more integrated and higher up.

An aftermarket hitch might protect more and lower.
