Ram 3500 6.4l hemi engine failure after using Fram oil filter

You really believe it was the filter?
Sounds like you are in Canada?
Year of truck?
Mileage on truck?
Main usage of truck? (Towing? Dually?)
Oil change history?
Brand and viscosity of oil used?
Where is the suspect filter now?
Yes from canada
Truck is a 2014 ram 3500
has 185000 km
Main use is moving small equipment trailers with the biggest equipment being a tracked bobcat couple times a month and daily driving
Oil changed before due dates cause it’s a ram and I was giving it the best Chance at not having lifter issues which I was warned about not as common as the 5.7 but still happened with misuse
Oil - always 0w40 Pennzoil
Fram warranty dept is testing filter

I have also requested with their testing to give me the comparison testing with an OEM Dodge filter brand new in the box that I sent with my used filter

I recently had a oil change at a local shop and I supplied a new Fram oil filter - part #
Xxxx. I confirmed it was the correct filter and after 20miles I was noticing very reduced oil pressure on my display usually 200kpa or above and was only showing 80 after the oil change and engine didn’t sound right , so I brought the truck to the local ram dealer got a new Mopar filter installed as recommended by the service manager and pressure was restored but engine sound wasn’t, unfortunately in the short time not enough oil pressure being provided to the top end caused lifter damage and etc. recommended complete engine replacement.
Service manager advised me that the Fram filter doesn’t have an internal spring like the OEM one and had this problem many times on the 6.4L hemi engines. Just to make others aware of my misfortune hopefully save someone else a few bucks
New engine running around $14,000
Trying to go through Fram’s warranty but so far just lot of there’s no issues with the filter
So what led you to Bitog after this happened?

I am sorry to read about your misfortune @Cooling617. What was the model number for that oil filter, if you don't mind sharing it? Thank you.
XG10060:

So you supplied the filter. I seriously doubt the filter caused any engine damage.
seriously doubt it Why ?

And yes I supplied a part that I thought would be better quality then the part being offered-Napa gold filter because that’s what they had on hand and my only mistake was not going OEM.

I agree 100%, I think there is more to the story. It would be helpful if the OP would post the official dealer diagnostics.

Thanks, it was in OP's second post, missed that. That's a very good filter, I'm sure that couldn't have been the issue. Restricted oil flow due to the oil filter would have triggered a code in the HEMI almost immediately.

As I said in my first post, the only way I can see this happening as described is if the filter had a louvered centre tube and all the louvers were shut, forcing any flow through the bypass, which isn't large enough to handle it all, resulting in considerable engagement of the pump relief. But yes, I'd expect a code or something related to this. He said oil pressure dropped to 11psi (80kpa) from 29psi (200kpa).

Yes, but isn't that more of an AMSOIL/Champion Labs quality control issue? This doesn't look like it was manufactured by Champ.

I will get the full diag sheet Tuesday when they open, they told me over the phone just before close but I want to post what they wrote on the sheet,
Engine codes I remember are for
cylinder 8 misfire
Multi cylinder misfire
And maybe one more I’ll post more info with actual codes Tuesday.

thats an online photo do you think its accurate?
I have fram xg7317's in the basement that are louvered
and I returned 2 xg10060 for the louvers being half closed.
I also have some fram titanium 10060 that are louvers and properly open.

I think that taking multiple pictures of the filter, including of the louvers would have been beneficial for you. If the louvers are only partially open or completely closed, then FRAM owes you and engine.
