I recently had a oil change at a local shop and I supplied a new Fram oil filter - part #
Xxxx. I confirmed it was the correct filter and after 20miles I was noticing very reduced oil pressure on my display usually 200kpa or above and was only showing 80 after the oil change and engine didn’t sound right , so I brought the truck to the local ram dealer got a new Mopar filter installed as recommended by the service manager and pressure was restored but engine sound wasn’t, unfortunately in the short time not enough oil pressure being provided to the top end caused lifter damage and etc. recommended complete engine replacement.
Service manager advised me that the Fram filter doesn’t have an internal spring like the OEM one and had this problem many times on the 6.4L hemi engines. Just to make others aware of my misfortune hopefully save someone else a few bucks
New engine running around $14,000
Trying to go through Fram’s warranty but so far just lot of there’s no issues with the filter

Fram filter #-XG10060

I’m not a Fram fan but they have replaced engines in the past if the filter caused the failure. They will first test the suspect filter in their lab to confirm.

Seems if this was as common as the Service Manager says the internet would be full of stories.
Right remember the service manager seen this many times even if that was true he didn’t advise him about this and go ahead and install the Fram filter I’m not buying it.

Sounds like engine was probably low on oil. The spring shouldn't cause the oil pressure to be that low...

I got to see the difference in oil pressure immediately after changing the filter to the OEM filter as soon as started up when from 80 to 200 Kpa that’s a huge difference in oil pressure

Nope not low on oil at all, I verified myself at time of oil change and when we replaced the filter 2nd time , my oil level on the dipstick was still good and we topped it off to bring it to the top of the dipstick gage at the dealership, and using 0w40 as recommended

Agreed on that one going through the process but not very hopeful on any resolution that’s going to help me lol 😂

Do you have the Fram XG10060 in your possession to send back to Fram for testing in their facilities?

Not saying it can’t happen as I’ve been on the end of a defective Fram TG10060 previously off a Hemi 5.7 with a manufacturing defect. As others mentioned that bypass would have opened and you would have had sufficient oil pressure.

Something else happened and there is more to the story here is my suspicion.

Sounds like you are in Canada?
Year of truck?
Mileage on truck?
Main usage of truck? (Towing? Dually?)
Oil change history?
Brand and viscosity of oil used?
Where is the suspect filter now?

The FRAM filter definitely has the bypass valve. Only thing I can think of is if it's one with the louvered centre tube and the louvers were all shut.. The bypass valve by itself would not flow enough oil to properly feed the engine.

I would fully expect FRAM (First Brands) to cover the engine replacement if this is the case, but you will need the filter they claim caused to problem to submit to them.
