RAM 1500 IS THE 2019 MOTORTREND TRUCK OF THE YEAR

I'd rather have an unwashed, outdated artificial heart hacked from the chest of an Al Quida terrorist with a different blood type from me implanted in my chest than own a Dodge/Ram truck.

It's a nice truck but yeah they've been spending hard past few years in hopes of a renaissance. Multiple Chrysler products this year

I haven't ridden in too many Mopars lately - but the better interiors and infotainment are noticeable, I'm sure the move to ZF trannies in their light-duty stuff to get a reliable product and economies of scale too doesn't hurt. But the Dodge Journey is still clinging onto legacy Mopar.

The newest Ram trucks don't look half bad either.

That mirrors my feelings on the subject.

I drive trucks out of necessity. I am a driving enthusiast and prefer agile sports cars.

I have zero brand loyalty. I purchase and drive what ever truck is most comfortable. No joke, seat comfort is number one, followed by driving dynamics.

Interior is great. Drivetrain is a holdover (from 2003's first 5.7 hemi). Independent rear suspension is great unloaded, but gets squishy hauling or towing. I used to rent a 1`/2 ton a few days every month for work and the ram interiors were great on new ones, but even a year old rentals had a tendency to creak and groan in the dash area. Ford rentals were often rough at idle but held up inside quite well. also fine on the highway. These were all (abused?) oil field rental trucks in northern Alberta so personal trucks that are taken care of would be significantly different. Still can't buy a FCA product.

Initial quality on trucks these days is pretty easy... seeing what failed after 5 years and 100k miles is a different story.

For American pickups the failure rate with in 5 years 100K miles is very very small.

Agree … just traded an 8 year old GMC … saw lots of off the pavement time (in the marsh)
Just tires and front brake pads … that's all …

Promise her a free phone before something bad happens …

I pay very little attention to any "truck of the year" accolades.
For example, go waaay back and view the entire list of the Motortrend Truck of the Year awards.
There are some real dudes in the list.

JD Power comes to mind , I received one for my ability to jump start my golf cart from my lawn tractor while putting a cat .

I have no idea what you said here.

I don't like the fact that if you want a Pentastar powered 2019 Ram 1500 (brand new style, not classic), it has to come with their new fangled E-Torq system. They're ruining a good thing there.

What I liked so much about Ram is the readily available and bargain prices of lightly used more basic model 1500 Pentastar 4x4s. It seems that's a thing of the past.

The Frontier is becoming a more and more attractive choice for people who want to be able to buy a truck without a bunch of unnecessary and unwanted addons, not to mention fuel injection technologies that annoy a lot of people here.

I was probably the biggest Ford fan boy there was. In all honesty I don't like anything they make any more. I'd rather not list my reasons, it will start a flame war.

I'm hoping the Bronco changes how I feel, and I become a Ford fan boy again.

5.7 HEMI went through a pretty significant change in 2009. MDS, VVT, combustion chambers changed shape (closer to pentroof than true hemi). But yeah, that engine is starting to get pretty long in the tooth. Low output for the displacement and the absolutely mmeehhhh fuel economy they return. Charger R/T gave me 16mpg average, v6 300 is giving me 10+ more and is only down 70hp from the Charger.

I fully agree, but Nissan quality is highly suspect. It's almost a third-world choice at this point. I've taken delivery of three brand new Frontiers that had nothing holding the radiators in place (factory just... forgot?). I've replaced a rear axle on one that failed at 58,000 very easy, senior-driven miles, and we all know about the no-no automatic/radiator/coolant mixing issues that they STILL HAVEN'T FIXED, which is unbelievable. Any number of aftermarket companies have offered guaranteed failure-proof versions for a decade now, and Nissan is still installing defective radiators at the factory.

Shame, too. I've always been a huge fan of the size, power, how they drive, and quite a few other aspects of the Frontier and Xterra.
