This is on my 2017 Ram 1500, pentastar, QC 4x4 express model. Just over 40K miles on the ODO. I just noticed yesterday when toggling though the dash display that my engine hours had dropped to 16 drive time and 165 idle hours?!? It's been awhile since I checked it, but last time I looked I believe I was approaching 2000 drive time hours and about 200 idle.

Truck is all factory yet. Haven't had any issues. I'm sure the PCM stores the real numbers, so I'm assuming the dash reading zeros out somewhere around 2000hrs drive time hours? Just checking to see if other Ram owners have experienced anything similar. There are some threads online, but no real info.

Why the idle hours don't jive I have no idea.

You may have accidentely reset it. My 2016 Ram Limited hasn't reset and it is the same data as in your truck.

It's easy to do because most menu functions use the right arrow as a clear button and the way the 4 buttons (up/down/left/right) are arranged you can easily hit it while navigating thru the screens. That's all I can think of.

Right/left arrows do not reset engine hours with my trim package RAM.

Bringing back an oldie here as the same issue struck me twice!

This first happened to me on my 2017 that I no longer own and it just recently struck me again on my 2019 Ram 1500 classic. I was at ~1600 "drive" hours IIRC and they magically all went away. It again left the idle hours alone and just reset the drive time hours.

Again, there is no way to reset this from the buttons/controls in the cab.

Weird.. I'm betting its just the display that's failing, and the real hours are stored in the PCM. If you have a decent scanner you might be able to access the info on it. Someone out there has to have had the issue fixed, lets just hope they share with the rest of us.

I didn't read the entire thread at all, but I'd call a local large dealership and talk to the service department real quick.. Be overly polite and tell them exactly what's happening. Maybe they'll ask the others real quick and let you know if they've seen it before, and what the fix is. If they tell you to bring it in, don't bother if its out of warranty. Probably charge you a few shop hours and then tell you they have to replace the dashboard control. If you know anyone with a decent scanner that is compatible with Rams, see if its stored in the PCU.
I'm betting it certainly is, in the same way your mileage is.
