Radiator cleaner

When I first flushed the coolant on my Grand Marquis, I used Liqui-Moly Radiator Cleaner. What came out was brown fluid, and I had to use over 20 gallons of water before the system would run clean. However, there is still dirt in the cooling system and I'm looking to flush it again soon.

In the mean time, would there be any harm in adding the said Radiator Cleaner to my coolant for some clean-as-you-drive? It's a slow cleaner, and consists of a soapy solution. Thanks!

If you still need to clean out the cooling system, do it with a cooling system cleaner and water. Flush the system with water, and then add your coolant.

The coolant is designed to protect the cooling system from sludge and rust. Adding a cooling system cleaner to your coolant mix would be counterproductive at best, and asking for trouble down the road at the worst.

Just my thoughts. YMMV.

I agree fill with water and detergent of your choice and go for a nice long drive. You certainly don't have to worry about it freezing in Kuwait so leave it in a few days if thats what it takes.

I *think* the coolant helps raise the boiling point of the water so you may want to stick close to home or at least somewhere you can pull over and cool down for your first trip until you know how things behave on this mixture.

Then I'd flush everything thoroughly with garden hose, fill with distilled water only and run for a minute, drain that and then fill with your final coolant/distilled water mix. Good to go for at least 3 years.

The radiator cleaners today must be safe for aluminum parts so they are very weak. The only way to get the mud out is to pull the drain plugs on the side of the engine and flush it out that way.
