Update: I replaced my rad with a Spectra about 2 weeks ago (got it from Napa for $170.00) and it was made in Canada!!! How cool!
The hoses all came off without issue and were in excellent shape inside. I did order a set of Gates from RockAuto, but I saw no need to replace the hoses. They really looked like new, inside and out. So now I've got a spare set in the garage.
I guess if your cooling system is well maintained and your hoses aren't being abraded/melted/leaked on/whatever, they can be considered lifetime items, with a periodic inspection being all that's in order. Of course that's only IMHO, and as always YMMV.
Edit: if anyone else has coated their lines/frame etc. with POR 15 like I did, be prepared for a really [censored] time trying to remove the lines in the future if you ever need to. My transmission cooler lines were coated with 2 coats of POR 15 and I nearly had to cut the lines and reflare them. POR really is tough stuff.
