Hi all! 98 buick lesabre.mechanic showed me,it was leaking, rack n pinion. Car has 145,000 miles. Said needs to be rlaced.and to get outer tire rid ends.kits usually have have the inners.
Rockauto, saw cardone.cheapest.then BBB. Looked at napa, and amazon has Detroit axle.
help me pic a brand!?

Gotta love the almost universal disdain for Cardone:

"Cardone is guaranteed to be junk;" "Never had good luck with anything Cardone;" and "Not OE but probably better than cardone."

Been using their stuff for about 30 years. They are my go-to for reman CV axles and brake calipers. Installed one of their racks on an '86 Dodge about five years ago without issue. Of all the parts I've used, had one bad brake caliper (which Rock Auto cheerfully replaced). That's it.

And be advised, Cardone is the rebuilder for several other brands/labels.

Have also used Detroit Axle - have one of their reman steering racks and two rear wheel bearing assemblies on my 2005 Caravan. Zero problems whatsoever.

Make an educated choice for your situation, but don't be overly swayed by naysayers.

What is the difference between the Magnasteer and non-Magnasteer racks?

GM has an "OE reman" for the magnasteer rack but not the non-magnasteer

The magnasteer,NV08, is an electrical plug in thing.that's all I know.
The non magnasteer,is just regular rack n pinion.I have just the reg one.Looked at it,while car was jacked up..no electrical plug in anything,in the pinion rack.

I'm gunn a get a quart,of autozone,or prefferably, maxlife Power steering fluid with stop leak. I checked the level yesterday am,it's cold..or low.stopped at autozone few hours ago,but they were closed. Veterans day.try tonight friday.
