Quicksilver 2 cycle oil

I have a 2001 200hp carburated Merc that has seen nothing but the quicksilver 2 cycle oil since new. I run it as a charter boat, so the engine gets many hours of running each year. Currently I think the engine has 2000+ hours on it. With all of that running, I go through my share of oil. Are their other oils of the same quality for less that I can run in this engine?

Normally I would tell you to not waste your money on Quicksilver. The only reason it cost more is because it says Quicksilver on the bottle, not because it's better. Alot of people on this board will tell you it's better, but I have yet to see any proof. In your case, however, I would continue using it. Apparently it's worked rather well.

2000+ hr on a 2-stroke! I if you could document that, Mercury would probably give you a new one. I never heard of a big engine going much over 1000 hr.

Can't help you on an oil recommendation. Anything you hear on this board will just be a testimonial anyway. The actual composition and relative performance of 2-stroke oils is even more obscure than PCMO specs. And nobody can do used oil analysis. But if you got 2000 hr using Merc TCW-3, it would be nuts to switch to anything else.

Chinook, do you have a Bass Pro Shop or a Sam's club in your area? I have been getting Quicksilver for $11.88 a gallon at Sam's and the Premium Plus was on sale last week at Bass Pro for $9.98 a gallon. As long as you can find an oil that does not smoke alot, or foul your plugs, there are several other oils out there that will probably work fine. -Joe

Phillips 66 Injex is a very good alternative to oem oils and is priced much cheaper in most cases.Shell Nautilus is also a good oil although it is harder to find in most parts of MI.

I`ve got four gallons of quicksilver I`d give to ya, now that I have changed over to the HP Injector Amsoil synthetic.

Any takers here in Oregon?
