quickest way to sell a car?

I have sold cars with people showing up at my house. No problems. I honestly think the odds of some whacko just showing up to do random harm are greater. Admittedly these were Volvo's, and Volvo owners are whacked in their own right.

Craig's list is the only way to go for the under $1K special.

I say if the car has much value and you want to sell it fast (not trade in): Make it shine like a virgin cherry. I mean the works. Then drive to the street in your area with the MOST used car lots. In the Seattle area it's 99 (Aurora) - just start at the furthest dealer and ask what they'll give you. Just keep going even it seems like a good deal (tell the guy you'll be back) I did this with my 1988 Blazer in 1996. I got a VERY high price. I was amazed, and the process was quick and they did the paperwork muy pronto.

Yeah - I sold a 262C Volvo to Seattle commie - the SXB never registered it...he racked up parking tickets and then abandoned the car. I had done all my paperwork correctly, and it was just a matter of proving it via snail mail. What a jerk. But then again it was a car I scavenged from a beater lot for $900, fixed and sold for $4000.

I didn't even think about the license plates, I'll take them off when I sell the car. so he/she will have to have the title changed to get new plates.

You can be found for a little as $11 on the internet assuming they can't just find you directly by running real estate titles, court records and property tax or even your old address.

I see the Public Place exchanges as more aimed to be sure
you aren't held up in a more private place like your street by Craigslist trollers.

All the vehicles except one that I've sold over the years have been from my home. Never a problem. In fact, I think buyers are put off if you insist on meeting them on neutral territory -- makes them think you are trying to hide something.

I tried to do the neutral territory thing back in Gainesville in '90 when Danny Rolling was still on the loose and perceived to have lost many potential buyers due to that. Of course, everyone in town was spooked at the time and it probably wasn't the best time to be trying to sell a car.

Frankly, I'm surprised a fellow BITOGer hasn't jumped on this. If Nashville weren't such a hike for me, I would. That engine bay looks pretty clean.

SOLD! for $400 to the first guy who looked at it. two of my afternoon setups didn't call back. oh well their lost. it was funny on the test drive, he was mentioning every little thing that was wrong. A/c doesn't work, trunk leaks water, muffler had a hole in it. I reminded him the price reflected all these things and it is a 15 year old car! He was a nice guy who had an infant and another baby on the way. he was driving a wrecked ford escort. he told me that his wife's old car just died of transmission failure.

If you are a car guy, people will know it. Someone you know will want the car. Price the car reasonably, tell the truth about the car, and you'll dispose of it quickly by word of mouth. I've sold six cars over the past ten years in exactly this way.
Why are you worried about the buyer being able to find you? As long as you tell the truth about what you are selling, no one will get mad at you. As has been noted above, if someone gets mad enough at you, they can find you. I think that with a good connection, and thirty minutes, I could locate anyone at no cost to me. The neutral territory thing doesn't work in the cuurent era.
