Quick question about Inline trans filter

I plan to do a cooler line flush on my Silverado. I was going to do it today, but ran out of time. I've read that many put Inline filters on the return side of the transmission lines after the cooler.

Is this as simple as cutting the Rubber part of the cooler line and installing the filter in between? could I do my cooler line flush while the line is cut to install the inline filter and have no need to disconnect any lines from the cooler itself? It seems I could do that correct?

Would it be worth it to add the magnifine inline filter? Filter in the pan has already been changed about 30k miles ago.

I've never done a cooler line flush, but it would work. make sure you have enough fluid to do the entire job.

Then flush the remainder of the old ATF from the converter and related circuitry.

I dropped the pan 30k miles ago. installed a new filter and cleaned the pan and magnet. There is no need for me to do that again. the filter is good for 100k miles in a 4L60-E from what i understand.

This was the Link i used to get info. This is on a Classic silverado, however. Mine is a NNBS truck and you cannot disconnect the cooler line from the radiator without loosing coolant. The design of the radiator connector changed in 2007. In order to flush mine i have to dissconect it at the actual cooler behind the grill. This is sort of a pain to access.

This is the reason i was considering an Inline filter. It would allow me to cut the rubber section of the return line and do my cooler line flush from there. I could then install the inline filter.

I was hoping to do it as described in the link you sent, however because of a slighly different design i cannot.

I have 16 Quarts of Maxlife FS ATF on deck so i have plenty of fluid to do a complete flush. Total trans capacity is 12qts. I bought and extra gallon to be sure i get a complete change over.

Mine is also a NNBS.

I lost zero "coolant" during my cooler line ATF flush as the respective circuits are entirely isolated from each other.

I didn't realize that fitting existed. Did you buy a quick disconnect tool or did you use a pick to release the disconnect?

I assume you just quick disconnected the line from the Radiator and connected this in place to clamp your clear hose onto?

My mistake was i tried to back the nut out of the radiator like was shown in the other link on GM forums.
 
I used a similar fitting to what Splinter used. IIRC, I had to remove a clip to get the stock fitting out, but it was a pretty easy job.
 
The Magnifine filter has worked for me just fine. That being said, my daughter had one crack in North Dakota. Real cold weather at the time. This was a couple years ago. I have done a fair amount of trans filt/pan drop flushes using the Magnifine.

The pans were always clean. I did a Taurus, and Caravan for 85K and the Magnifines were pretty clean. So I still run them even though I never found much debris in them.
These transmissions had Amsoil transmission fluid in them, which helped.

magnefine is easy drop-in for this kind of job.

for a few $ more you can order a spin-on filter mount and a couple of brass hose barbs and plumb it for a spin-on filter with a metal canister. It's harder to squeeze in but allows easier changes down the road. I've gone through three magnefines that never failed but 1 weeped slowly. The spin-on stays dry on the outside.
