I recently hung my first interior door at an old house I am fixing up. I used a new product called a Quick Door Hanger instead of the usual wood shims. The hanger kit costs about 5 dollars at Home Depot. The kit contains 6 brackets that screw to the prehung door frame, 3 on each side. You put the door into the rough frame opening, check for level, then drive 6 drywall screws through the brackets into the rough frame. Done in 15 minutes and no fiddling with shims. There are Yoo Toob videos of the product in action. Makes the job easy for a newbie, half fast carpenter.

Huh. I just did a prehung door in my bathroom. I did a lot of shimming and was wondering why a better solution doesn't exist. Looks like it does.

Thanks for the "tool review". I'll be doing a pre-hung front entry door soon.
Kira - There is another door hanger called an EZ Hang that works on exterior doors. Some of the brackets are detachable so you can install the door. I never used this version.

Again thanks. I've probably hung 100 "slab" doors. These are just doors into which you must mortice hinges and all other hardware.

A "big deal" entry door (I've read a bit) requires leveling and squaring I never experienced before. There are procedures whereby you run strings crosswise to replicate square surfaces.

It's the shameless overcharging installers do which have me tackling this job. Hey, My Dad made the door there now....I feel like a traitor.
