I have recently bought a 2004 GMC Sierra 1500, 5.3L V8, auto, Autotrac T case and all the bells and whistles. Now has 29,000 miles.

Since I'll be occassionally be towing and plowing snow, I would like switch to M1 ATF. I'd like some opinions on doing this via a series of drain and fills through the pan (I'll be installing a drain plug), approxiamtely every oil change. Is M1 compatible with the stock fluid? Do I want to mix the fluids like that?

Thanks Pablo, thats what I thought but I wanted a few expert opinions before I started.

I would actually consider Amsoil's ATF. I've seen it in several applications (including my trucks) with great results. One trip saw the tranny temp needle pegged. I pulled over as soon as I could. After enough cups of coffee at the waffle house I stopped at, the tranny dipstip was cool enough that I could actually touch it. The fluid was still pink, and didn't smell burnt at all. From this experience I learned that sythetic tranny fluid is worth every penny and you should never try to tow 16,000+ lbs with an 04 F150 rated at 7500 lbs.

I just switched out from Mobil 1 Syn ATF to Amsoil Universal ATF. Definitely like the Amsoil much better. Smoother shifts, smoother drivetrain. The Amsoil ATF is very cleaning. I spilled some in the engine compartment during the change and it cleaned all metal it got in contact with. Also I think Mobil 1 ATF formulation has been changing. I have like 3 different bottle styles now.

Amsoil ATF in my factory Mercon V Ford Explorer trans and transfer case..
Smoother shifts and drivetrain also.

crashz,
I have done a couple of drain-and-fills on my '01 Tundra with Mobil 1 ATF. I try to do a drain-and-fill every 15k. No problems at all.
