Question on Mobil 1 Filter...

I use the M1c-451 on my '11 Jetta 2.5. Due to a fair amount of short trips, I change the oil at 5-7.5k. It's a cartridge filter, so I get a good look when I pull it. At a recent change of 6k, the filter looked really great. Thoughts on reusing the filter for another OCI? I changed it this time, but I am thinking of reusing it in the future.

Any input is appreciated.

I don't see any problem at all. I don't see how they would know if there was a warranty problem with the car. It is probably best to change it but I think the filter can handle two OCI's. Just inspect each one at time oil change.

I reuse the cartridge Bosch oil filter in my E430 after 12k miles OCI. Upon inspection the filter at oil change, it was in excellent condition without much debris I can see with my naked eyes. Since the filter holder is on top of the engine, I can remove it easily to inspect, I plan to do it every 3-4 months.

Mobil 1C-451 is expensive, I think Fram CH9911 is much cheaper at Rockauto, buying a dozen at a time to reduce shipping cost per filter may be a better choice than Mobil 1 filter, and change it every oil change.

I could always go with a new one. Percentage wise its a tiny percent of the cost to run your car. Its a 2011, not a 1993.

I have a Mobil 1 filter on my dad's car and I also do multiple oil changes, clean fresh oil is more important.

Suggesting a filter can't last its designed lifetime is a bit dangerous perhaps. All one is buying is more filters, and perhaps the peace of mind in a warranty situation. I believe that is where the only value lies. I use my M-103s to 15K miles.

buy the filter, keep the receipt, put new filter on the shelf. Re-use the old filter. You now have proof for your warranty

I just want to change the oil, and use the filter for 10,000 miles..

it is 2006 toyota camry v6. 98% highway.. using chevron 5w30.

so would it be ok to run fram extra guard for 10k ??

Absolutely "NO".

Fram Extra Guard may be able to run up to 5-6k miles OCI at most. If you want to do 10k miles OCI then you need to go with Motorcraft, Purolator Pure 1, Wix, Napa gold ... oil filter. The extra cost per OCI is only $2-3 which is less than 1 penny per 10 mile.

Also, conventional oil for 10k miles OCI is pushing it a little too far out, I would do 7-8k miles OCI with Chevron Supreme given that it is driven mostly on highway and at more than 10 miles trips.

Or you can go with PP or Synpower for 10-12k miles OCI with any filter mentioned above.

As I mentioned above, these filters Wix/Napa Gold, Purolator Pure 1, Motorcraft, Bosch Premium are good for 10-12k OCI. But you need to use synthetic oil for that long OCI.

I use the Mobil 1 #110 exclusively in my Nissan 370Z. I run Redline oil and 5K OCI's which seems short but that engine is hard on oil. The filter would probably go longer but my concern is that removing for inspection might compromise the gasket seal. In a pinch I would just leave it on and run it to 10K miles as I see less potential for problems by not removing it. The Mobil 1 filter is one of the top 3 on the market and is pretty robust but for $12 it's worth it to me just to put on a fresh one when I change the oil anyway.
