Mobil 1 filter life?

Vehicle is a 2014 Ford Edge, V6 (not ecoboost). I changed the FF at about 2000 with Mobil 1 and an Mobil 1 filter. I plan to change the oil again in a few hundred miles at 6000 miles, then every 6k miles after that.

For this next oil change can I reuse the Mobil 1 filter (I would take it off and empty out the old oil) that is currently on there?

If you were to reuse do not remove.

Do not remove the filter to drain it. Why are you using long life oil and changing it a conventional oil intervals ? there is really 0 benefits.

Car is probably under warranty.

I would not (and don't) empty out my Mobil 1 filter when I do an OC; I run 15K+ with my M-103

I just pour the new oil in; the oil was protecting the engine fine, minutes before, it doesn't self destruct when one decides to do an OC.

I had a M-104 Mobil 1 oil filter on my dad's 2005 Civic for 5 years.

I drained / refilled oil every year (2500 miles). Zero need to remove oil filter.

As has been said, the only time you remove a filter is to replace it.

That being said, even if you plan on using the filters longer, I would replace is since the vehicle is so new. There are more particles of stuff in the oil during break in than afterwards, so the filter is probably getting full faster. Granted, it can probably go longer than 5k miles, but for the second filter used on the vehicle, I'd go ahead and change it out.

I don't know what the life of Mobil 1 filters are for future oil changes. But Fram Ultra filters are really good, and they say they can do 15k miles on them. Why no get a Fram Ultra and change it every other oil change (so every 12k miles)?

One thing to note, if the vehicle is new, and the owner's manual says to change the filter more often than that, then follow the manual. You don't want to deal with a headache trying to get warranty work done because the company is trying to use the lack of oil filter changes a loophole to get out of doing the work.

Just use the IOLM. It allows a max OCI of 6 months or 10,000 miles. Duratecs are easy on oil.

They'll almost always filter well throughout any reasonable OCI.
They're quality filters imho but FU gets a lot of love from BITOG. And you asked about M-1s.

I change any filter I remove as a matter of course. I have enough spare money I can waste some of it with no pain.

I currently have one in use since 4/18/14 with about 2,400 miles on it. Lots of short trips to and from local jobs. I plan on dumping the oil and filter before it gets very cold. I was hoping for 3,000 miles but that could take me into 2016. lol

You should know better, especially seeing you are in California.

The object of some things is to get closest without going over!

So a 3000 OCI in three months on a 15000 mile oil and filter is kind of as bad as putting 15000 miles on a 3000 mile oil and filter!

Also splinter. How would you like if you saw me leaving the water hose on all day? I mean, here we usually have plenty of water and it is easy to afford a few pennies to just waste away.

How about that while you are fighting for drops during one of ya'lls yearly droughts?

I didn't grow rich running my own business by frittering money away.
My family and I derive great pleasure from vehicular maintenance.

Our water and energy consumption at our palatial oceanfront estate (and other real properties) is, in fact, quite reasonable.
