Question for anyone else who uses the Torque app... What ELM327 adapters are y'all using?

I've tried a couple different ones in my 2005 Envoy XL, they all pair to my phone just fine. They all are recognized and pair in the app. But they all simply just refuse to communicate with my ECU.

I've tried forgetting and re-pairing, I've reset the adapter list several times...

It's not an issue with my OBD port either, my actual scan tool works just fine. But I'd like to be able to use Torque to watch some real time data and have some extra gauges if someone can help me figure this out.

In the past I've used one of the generic blue ELM327 adapters, but lately I've been changing over to Veepeak BLE+.

I've used the $3 generics but only gotten "generic" codes out of them; they don't have all the pins or protocols.

My "Carista" branded ELM works pretty well with both the carista software and generic stuff like Torque and Dr. Prius.

I use a PLX Kiwi 2+ with Torque Pro on an old Android tablet. I can see live data, fault codes, and reset fault codes as well in the app. I mainly use this on my Mercedes and do some datalogging with it. It is probably more expensive than other devices but it was designed to work with Torque and other apps.
The newer Kiwis (3 and 4) can interface with IOS as well as Android. I will probably upgrade to the 3 or 4 if I need to do more with it.

I have 3 ELM327 bluetooth adapters. Two are standard size (roughly like a pack of cigarettes), one is the blue mini size stubby.
  1. Ancel V1.5 BT ELM327 - standard size from ebay - works with Torque Pro in all cars I've tried so far (Toyota, Pontiac, Jaguar, Nissan, BMW, Hyundai)
  2. Generic standard size ELM327 from AliExpress - connects via BT but DOES NOT WORK in any car with any software (won't connect to ECU). Junk.
  3. Generic ELM327 Mini size (blue stubby) - Works fine in Jaguar. Does NOT work in Toyotas or Pontiacs (Torque Pro never connects to ECU). Weird. I just keep in my Jag center console at all times.
So very much YMMV.
