Question for MechTech2

On a previous manual transmission fluid post (is there anything better in a BMW MT than Redline?), you mentioned you do a 1/2 MTL and 1/2 MT90 mix. I assume this is in a BMW. How is the shifting during the winter in Chicago?
I live in Boise. Presently have Amsoil MTF, but I am thinking about an Amsoil mix with my next change. It's the best I've used so far but still a bit notchy.

For what it's worth I use 1/3 MTL and 2/3 MT90 in my Mazda trans axle and it shifts as well as Redline's D4 ATF did when the temps are in single digits here in Detroit.

Lots of VW people go 1/2 MTL and 1/2 MT-90. Works great.

I tried the 1/2 Redline MTL and 1/2 MT90 becuase it was so often used and recommended here and on other forums. [I also usedup what was on the shelf - it worked out well!]
It felt better than the MTL alone. It really seems great.

I have not used this mix in the old 320i. Just the Ford ZX2, which has a somewhat finicky shifting trans.

Winter was no problem at all. We were below zero F for weeks. Yes, there was a feel difference, but not objectionable or problematic. Just a little different.

Remember that gear oil is not rated at the same temperature as engine oil, so this mix is actually less thick than an engine oil that is 10-40.

But I would use the superb new Amsoil in any trans , also. Maybe you need a slightly thicker version of the Amsoil gear oil to smooth out the shifting.
