I have been using QSGB because of the Moly and Boron; but my son uses Mobil 5000 because he says the titanium in it is better for the cleaning aspect. Is he right or are we splitting hairs here on the issue? I think they are both good oils but we got into a little discussion, so I'm curious if there is any advantages either way. --Thanks for any input from any of you BITOG experts.

Titanium is added to motor oil to provide a wear resistant nonoscale layer to engine parts. It has nothing to do with the cleaning abilities of the oil.

Correct.
Ti is generally considered to be a cheaper AW additive source to moly.

Hallmark and CATERHAM--Thanks for the quick info.-greatly appreciated and I can tell my son what you have related. So, I guess both are fine. The Titanium just attends to a different function than the moly and boron.

No. Titanium, Boron and Moly are all anti-wear additives. The Ti is used instead of the Mo. Cleaning is handled by other additives such as Calcium and Sodium.

Ok. So if they are all anti-wear additives, is the titanium better or is that just splitting hairs?(I think I said that referring to the cleaning question-Oh well!!)Once again just curious.

As Caterham eluded to, Ti is believed to be a cheaper alternative to Mo. If it does the job it's intended then it's spitting hairs to me.

Truly, it's the end result that is important and not the parts that get there.

Yea--I kind of felt that way also. Just trying to get a little more educated I guess. If it works its good. Thanks for the info.
