question about mixing engine lubes

2018 Jeep Cherokee with the 2.4 L with about 130 K on the clock. Which holds 6 quarts I was lazy to go to Wally and all I had on hand was 5 quarts of 0W20 Castrol edge black bottle and 1 quart quaker State ultimate protection 0w20 too completed my 6 quarts. Is it really that bad to mix different brands? I know someone’s going to ask what kind of filter it was a Fram orange can ph10060

6 quarts? Every 2.4l Multiair I’ve seen calls for 5.5 quarts.

The one in our Chrysler is right at the full mark with 5.5 quarts.

You did great!
Oil changed on time is much more important than mixing different oils.

Most oils today can mix with one another with no issues, unless is stated by the manufacturer and those are usually racing and special application oils.

A single oil changer interval? You will be fine. Now if you were doing Frankenbrew mixes every oil change, and doing extended OCI, that may not be too good of an idea.

Oh no... not the group 2 and 3 oil mixed with another group 2 and 3 oil!

Lets say you wanted to use Quaker State only and so you put in 6 quarts. You'd still be mixing since there's a quart or so hidden in the engine that doesn't drain. You're always mixing oil.

If we want to get technical there's a 99.999% chance there's still factory fill in my 343k yukon though it'd only be less than a milliliter at point since i've never torn it down and sterilized the inside of oil with solvent. But whatever i'd put in after that would remain until the last molecule is gone long after.

Oh well, I don’t blame you, I’d top it up to the full mark as well. I have to do that with our Mazda using the 4.8 quarts it calls for. It always takes a little over 5 quarts.

You’re right about the Mazda. My neighbor has the same problem. He puts around 5 1/4 or 5 1/2 quarts. He was telling me. Maybe my dipstick is longer than yours on my jeep.

can't find the VOA anymore, but many moons ago I made a Frankenbrew with the left over .5 qts from 9 oil changes between the cars my buddy and I were driving at the time ( both took 4.5 qts) half were 5w30, half were 5w20, there were no notes from blackstone about anything to worry about, and unsurprisingly, they said the Viscosity tested as a "heavy" 5w20...
