I just put an M1-102 on my 1996 Avalon with a crankcase of fresh oil. The filter itself is, AFAIK, 2011 production.

The car does not see dusty conditions normally. Do any of you see any problems in running this filter through multiple oil changes? I can see 15,000 miles out of this.

I have run them in the past to 10,000 miles on Mobil 1 )W-40 oil in the past, with a single use.

From ExxonMobil:

Quote:
Mobil 1™ Extended Performance oil filters, manufactured by Champion Laboratories, Inc. (“Champion Laboratories”), are warranted to be free from defects in material and workmanship. Any Mobil 1 Extended Performance oil filter proven defective during the engine or equipment manufacturer’s recommended service interval (or up to 15,000 miles of guaranteed protection when combined with fully synthetic motor oils) will be replaced at no charge by Champion Laboratories.

I'm not sure what "guaranteed protection" is exactly, but you get it for 15,000 miles.

I'd say it depends on how much sludge your engine has.
15K might be doable on a clean engine but not on a dirty engine.

one filter, one OCI!!!!

If this Avalon is a sludger, no more than 5k with synthetic, and change the PCV valve and grommet annually if not every OCI!

The grommet is a pain in the [censored] to change in older toyotas. Specially if it's old and dry.. You are better off not messing with it if it's not cracked

Not a big deal since there is a baffle underneath the hole the grommet goes in. And once the valve cover gaskets need replacing, you can simply pop it out from underneath.

Also, the trouble of trying to replace an old and dry grommet is another reason to replace it often

I run the M1-104, which is similar in size and construction, on the wife's Odyssey for 2 7.5k OCIs with no issues. Have done it several times, cutting them open each time. I never see anything of concern.

But what are "multiple" oil changes? 3 x 5k or 2 x 7.5K? I suppose it doesn't matter, but I am curious.

1997 1MZFE engines were sludgers, not the 1996 versions. My rocker cover gaskets have been changed a few times and there has never been sludge. If a car keeps passing smog testing, it is OK.
