I just had my rear quarter panels sandblasted, treated with 2 coats of rust bullet (rust inhibitor paint, supposed to stop rust for at least 10 years) and filled with duraglass & aluminum and then coated that with rust bullet, then repainted both quarter panels:

Mid January, driver's side, when I purchased the car:

Late January, driver's side, after removing the weather strips:

Today, driver's side (March 14, 2007), after all the work was done:

The driver's side didn't turn out as good as the passenger side, imo.

The passenger side had rust in two spots. Down by the rocker panel and on the wheel arch near the bumper (typical Honda rust):

The person that I had do the body work was so impressed with the Rust Bullet stuff I bought that he bought an extra can from me for other cars he works on. I have high hopes that this will stop the rust from coming back for as long as I own the car -crosses fingers- If anyone has any questions, feel free to ask

Interesting... the fiancee's integra is showing rust in the same spots, as well as under the side rub strips on one side. I dont know why, our 94 toyota, mitsubishi, nd 97 plymouth dont have a spot of rust - IMO, honda chose some iferior materials for this vehicle...

Anyway, how much of it did you do yourself??? It looks great, and I have rust bullet as well as the black shell paint. I wouldnt mind painting the whole car while getting something like this done... of course, given the cost of a good paint job and body work in general, Id love to get as much as I can done myself...

Thanks,

JMH

I have been wanting to order RB FOREVER. I finally may be able to, then will be having a friend help me use it on my quarters, trunk edge, and bumpers.

The problem with all Hondas of this generation is the rubber strip they put along the rear fender to prevent chips. It retained salt, moisture and dirt and caused the rust, even if your car was well maintained (like mine was). The only thing I did myself was taking the rubber strips off and purchasing the paint

It's very feasible to do it yourself, but you'll want to get the quarter panel repainted like I did, if you want it to match the rest of the paint without having valleys of missing coats and paint fade, etc.

door had rusted bad at the door skin seam i guess you call it I did exactly what rust bullet said wire brushed the rust off, anyway 2 or 3 coats brushed on then a day or so to dry then a few top coats with a spray can of dupli color brand. did not need smooth finish since rust was inside of door and at bottom did not show All i did was mask off the door weather striping and sprayed top coat on.
Color match was very good.

been a full year and no rust through or stain at all.

yeah there was some pitting BUT like I said the rust is at the bottom inside where the outer door skin "folds" over if that makes sense and i did not care about looks as long as it did not rust through. read directions and they say "to" leave rust and the bullet stuff will convert it anyway other than 2 or 3 coats and then a few sprays with the dupli color top coat NO RUST or stain yet, very happy so far.

The reason why I chose Rust Bullet over POR-15 is that the metal doesn't require as much preparation, has a natural silver color to it (to match the color of my car in case I can't top coat it, for example, under the hood), and because it costs a little bit less and doesn't require as many different products. It also doesn't require a topcoat, which is a plus.

Yep, this has just happened with our 2005 Pilot, also. Rear fender and everything. Of course, we did just have a really harsh winter. But still, it's a 2005 vehicle which I keep washed and waxed.

You'd be surprised how many people scoffed at me for telling them to remove those rubber seals. They all think i'm trying to get them to ruin their cars or something. -shrugs-
