Quarter Panel Rust - Before & After!

Rust Bullet, never hear of the stuff looks interesting. I might get some and do some 'durability testing' on some scrape laying around.

www.rustbullet.com I still have to order it, but after seeing the pictures above and on their site, I'm sold.

Permatex makes a decent body trim adhesive, but their rust "treatment/converter" spray just blows.

Por-15 is another good rust inhibitor, but I really like the way this turned out. I still have to apply some under my hood around the latch because it's rusting from opening/closing the hood so many times. It's supposed to also strengthen the rusty metal which is perfect for the area that sees a lot of abuse under the hood.

I have been using POR-15 for years. Rust bullet seems alot easier to apply, especially the surface prep. Be interesting to see how well rust bullet does.

So has anyone figured out a fix to this that lasts at least a few years? To the OP, how's your quarter panel doing? I tried doing a basic sanding and rust bulleting and I'm starting to see bubbling again after a few months so I"m hoping that by being a little more thorough maybe that'll make the difference. Or, maybe someone has figured out something.

Sorry for bringing a thread back from the dead but I figure asking people who treated this a few years ago would be ideal

It's a little too soon to see if the POR-15 I used on the Buick is any good. It sure seemed very tough when I followed their prep directions. The areas I painted without prepping according to their directions aren't doing as well.

I'm not too impressed with Rust bullet. I actually sanded some parts of frame down to clean metal and applied last year. Many spots rusting through it.

Hmmm...I wonder if that would work.

Under the wife's pass. front and drivers rear doors have rust on them (not bad yet) I'm trying to come up with a plan like POR to save those doors as long as I can...

Yep, this has just happened with our 2005 Pilot, also. Rear fender and everything. Of course, we did just have a really harsh winter. But still, it's a 2005 vehicle which I keep washed and waxed.

I've tried all kinds of rust repairs. None of them hold up to any decent length of time. It's a waste of time unless the car is retired from salt duty. There's nothing one can do to restore the efficacy of factory applied surface treatments. The time is better spent on prevention via rustproofing.

I have similar rust on my Corolla, and along the door seems, and in a few other small places. Its not enough to notice unless you're looking for it, but I've been working on it myself throughout the summer using POR-15. Once the visible rust is dealt with (or at least as much as I can get done before the snow comes), I plan to have it fully sprayed every fall and spring.

The rust came back on my quarter panels and is now worse than before, after the Rust Bullet treatment and spending a lot of money. The only way to fix it is to weld new metal in or prevent it from happening in the first place.
