Rrecommend a Rust Check/ Krown Shop in GTA

I'm looking for members that Use Krown or Rust Check in the Greater Toronto Area.

Here's the background info. I picked up my new 2015 DGC SXT Plus. I normally rust proof my rides once a year. I've used Krown and Rust Check before. You would think Rust proofing is a no brainer, but the shops I used haven't been the best.

Last year my wife's 97 Civic was treated at Rust Check. Five days later I couldn't lock the driver's side door with the key. I swear they messed up the rods for the locking mechanism when they inserted the wand to spray the coating. This car doesn't have power door locks.

I had to remove both door panels to replace the door lock mechanism and to inspect the passenger side mechanism to see how it properly works.

When I looked inside the door panels, it appeared that they hardly sprayed any rust check inside the door, the coating was very light. I was ticked and I had a can that you can buy at Canadian tire, so I killed the inside of both doors with Rust Check.

If you know of a location that does a great job, please let me know.

I would just do it yourself so you know it done right. Or, try Walmart, they do oil spraying as well

My buddy works at the Krown in Trenton, but that's a bit of a drive for you....

Go to a dedicated Krown shop. They are better than any other place IMO, and I've used them for many years with no problems or rust issues. The one I like best is the Krown in Bolton - it's family owned and the owner and his daughter are very good, take great care of your vehicle, do a thorough job, and are very neat about it (as neat as they can be anyway). Obviously, that's a fair hike for you in Oshawa, but I've heard good things about the Krown outlets in Mississauga as well (if that's an option for you).

I've used the Krown head office in Concord before as well, but I found that they are not nearly as "neat" and careful as they should be, although they still do a thorough job. You just end up having to clean off your door panels, dash, seats, and shifter / steering wheel after because they were a bit careless during application. None of that at the Bolton location though.

Thanks. The local Krown by me would forget to reinstall plugs and some times they forgot to spray the rear hatch. It's not rocket Science.

I'm also thinking about DIY. I know it's a mess, but they sell the FLUID FILM kits.

I get my truck sprayed every couple of years at the Krown shop at Dufferin and Wilson. They do an ok job but they do miss some areas, some really accessible and some not so accessible. My truck has brake lines that are obstructed by frame rails and the gas tank and the only way I can see them is to use a mirror. The shop misses those lines (I don't really fault them for that) and I spray them myself. Every spring and fall I go under the truck and spray all the brake lines and any other rusty looking areas.

Thanks George. It sounds like all of the Pros miss stuff. Obviously it`s a rush in a shop to get the cars in and out. I`ve decided to buy a gallon of Fluid film and the pro gun set and do it myself. In the long run I`ll save money and better protect my vehicles.

I once submitted a car for inspection for a buyer. The mechanic gave me high praise for the rustproofing job.

If you DIY, make sure to get all the brake lines and fuel lines around the entire circumference of the tube. Those were some missed spots that gave me fits later on.

Thanks. Yes I plan on doing that. I'm also thinking that come the spring I can clean off the under carriage with a power washer and then retreat the entire bottom.

I'm thinking of going with Fluid film. A 1 gallon can sounds like it will treat 3 vehicles.

Dont waste your money on fluid-film, its nothing special. Go to your local oil distributor for some undercoating oil...$15 a gallon

The Krown product is good, but the application process is what bothers me. I understand that some panels need to be drilled for access, but what kills me is when there are factory access holes with plugs (such as on the bottom of the rockers) and they STILL drill holes. This is just plain laziness

I suspect local oil distributors in the US don't have these types of things nearly as often as places in America's Hat. Many places in the U.S., even some areas with significant rust, don't have many (or any) undercoating places.

I don't claim FF is perfect, but it's readily available and easy to do for a DIY'er.
