Quaker State filters... Who makes them?

Here is a nice thread for those wanting a cut open view of a QS and Pennzoil filters. One caveat, in the thread the OP refers to the QS and PZ as a Purolator Classic, which implies the same efficiency @97.5% as the Classic. While they are constructed and look very similar to the Classic or even P1, it's questionable they are built to the same efficiency spec. The AAP Total Grip media (left) looks nearly identical to the P1 in the pic below. Yet the P1 is rated at 99.9% while the AAPTG is rated at 94%. That said, I use the AAPTG (now discontinued) for ~5k OCI's all the time, a solid filter and value. Wish I could still get them, and likely the QS and PZ is closer to the TG, IMO.

We have some old stock Quaker State filters here at work. The Quaker State30 I'm thinking about getting has the white body with green lettering. But.... theres one Quaker State30 straggler that is green with BLACK lettering that is a little larger than it's counterparts. Is this one of the ones manufactured by Fram that should be avoided?

Last one I cut open (last month, Quaker State3600) was one of the best looking filters I've seen in a while.


Must of been on a Ford, 3.0 litre, maybe a taurus or tempo?

Where are the Quaker State filters sold in the South Eastern US?

Not sure, but if you are looking for something very similar, PepBoys ProLine, and Advance Auto ProMotive(in back) would fill the bill.

Posters north of the border seem to mention Quaker State filters in particular.

Oh, I see what you mean. I was considering them for my parent's vehicles since I haven't won my pop's away from 3k mile oil changes yet.

Have not been FRAM for a very long time. To the poster above with the green filter and black lettering, it is a Purolator.
