I know folks here have the opinion that the Pennzoil Pure Plus synthetic has better cleaning ability that Quaker State Ultimate Durability synthetic - has anyone actually tested or seen a significant difference ? Also if a vehicle has used synthetic oil of one type or another changed on time would there be much to be said (in terms of cleaning ability) between QSUD and PPP ?

Id doubt there is much difference. Maybe a tad more difference between those 2 oils and PUP. I am assuming PUP has a better add pack and thus allows Pennzoil's marketing plan to say PUP cleans better..by how much...id assume itd be hard to tell and depend on how clean engine is to start with and you would need to remove valve cover after each OCI to make a judgment..otherwise no true way of knowing for sure.

In an engine that's had regular maintenance, there won't be much to clean so there won't be any difference.
In a really dirty engine, I doubt that there's be that much difference either.
PP was always marketed as a better cleaning oil than QSUD or the previous QS syns and Ultra was marketed as being even better than PP.
In practice, there is probably more difference in the marketing and branding than there is in any aspect of the performance of these oils in service.

Looks almost identical....but my guess is that Pennzoil has better base oils than QSUD....thus the slightly higher price.

Price here is identical between the two, in other words too high.

As for cleaning, I'd say six of one and half dozen of the other. They're completely interchangeable in most respects.

So QSUD looks like the best chose

Moly 252 vs. 57 ... Rest of data looks almost the same!
Are they the same kind of moly?

I guess you can add same amount of stuff to water (as base oil)

Base Oils...

Within the past 6/8 months I have read, most likely on this site or www.Quakerstate, that QSUD is 70 to 90% GTL base oil. So, very much, or close as PP, with more moly.

The Analysis posted above is old, before Dexos 1 gen2, Quakerstate currant Calcium is just under 1000, not 2268ppm

PP Dexos 1 gen2 Calcium is also only a little over 1000, like 1200ish, not 2615ppm

Those levels of Calcium would not meet Dexos 1 gen2

This is a deal for a name brand synthetic

"Cleaning ability" is not exactly the same as ability not to form deposits (on pistons in particular).

Yes, it is the same.
You want that oil to cease and/or reduce deposits. Platinum / Ultra Platinum is known as a SOPUS gas engine leader in that regard. It's advertised as-such.
If you talk to SOPUS over the phone or by mail/email.....etc, they tell you the facts. They tell you Platinum is their Premium oil - Ultra Super Premium.

I would like to think that QSUD would be good at preventing deposits in the first place - same (if not better) than any other oils meeting D1 / Gen 2 ?

Think I'm gona try qsud in 5w-20 and 5w-30 in 3 vehicles.
Im thinking I will notice no difference from platinum and mobil 1 I currently use
