Yes, I agree. The theory is that the low volatility is due to them using excess GTL base stock. But that doesn't mean it will happen for every batch into the future.

I'm using GTL right now (Shell Helix Ultra), I got all excited about the GTL buzz. But now that it's in my car, it's just oil. To be honest, I preferred the previous Valvoline DuraBlend. My cold engine tick went away a lot quicker on the semi-Syn 10W-40 DuraBlend than on the present SHU 5W-40. I'm sort of thinking that the lower VI sem-syn warms up faster than the higher VI full Syn. More friction when the oil is cold.

Look like you will have to start using Penrite 10-Tenths, with it's 600ppm of Boron.

Should run nice in your Jeep.

Wow. I had no idea QSGB had such a high moly content. At $14 a jug, I would call this a sleeper/ highly over-looked oil too.

I had been spreading lies all this time saying Chevron products were right behind PYB in terms of moly content.

It's still a stout add pack for an ILSAC oil, and if they lowered the boron, perhaps they increased something else. It's $13.97 a 5 qt jug at Wal Mart right now. You've also got people who have ran QSGB for years, through numerous formula changes, and it's always good stuff. Point is, you never really know when an oil's formula will change, but you can trust the quality won't suffer.

With a vehicle specked for a 30 weight oil I'd be less concerned with the friction modifiers an more concerned with the quality of the base oil (noack, flashpoint, VII) if durability is your goal.

I hurt my shoulder, so my body could not handle doing my own oil change this time around. Went to my local Walmart that has a Tire Lube Express(TLE), and got the new Pit Crew oil and filter change for $19.88. It features Quaker State Advanced Durabilty green bottle, so I got the 5w30. They put on a Fram Core 3387ATLE that has the orange grip paint on it. That filter is equivalent to an ACDelco PF47E, and my Oldsmobile specs a PF52(E). They are the same though except the PF52 is a good bit taller. I don't think it matters.

Anyway, my old GM 3.1 sounds pretty good on it. I am liking it just as much as PYB as far as how the engine sounds. For the money, I might just keep on using it. The PQIA VOA's always look good to me, and it does have a good dose of moly and boron in it, so at least on paper it looks to have a lot of anti-wear .

I guess that's the point. The formulation may have changed recently. Your 270K miles were with the previous one.

While I take Shell's word on it that PYB, QSGB, and FS are different products, I still haven't seen the slightest bit of evidence that there is any difference between the three in actual use.

I'll continue to use it. It's still cheaper than Pennzoil. A slight formulation change doesn't mean a lower quality oil. As it's usually said on here, use with confidence. I think returning was a bit extreme, just my opinion.

I have finally seen a price differentiation between QSGB and PYB up here, after all these years. Canadian Tire currently charges $1 more per 5 litre jug of PYB than QSGB (at regular prices). Considering their pricing is so astronomically high, it's neither a surprise nor is it consequential. When you're charging close to $30 for a jug of conventional, $1 here or there is irrelevant.

On the positive side, the QSGB and QSUD were on a pretty big rollback at Canadian Tire, and they did have a lot in stock. I really had to restrain myself from grabbing a shopping cart and filling the thing.
