PYB and ROTELLA BLEND

Hello there folks and my neighbor that has a 2000 Accord, 4cyl, with 101,456 miles on it, asked me today if he could take 2 1/2 qts of Pennzoil Conventional 5w20 and same amount of ROTELLA 5W40 synthetic for a winter blend. I told him I didnt think it would hurt in all honesty. I told him he cant go wrong with the Pennzoil Conventional 5w20 he is currently using.


Any thoughts, advice and opinions are greatly appreciated

Why does your neighbor want to use the Rotella 5W-40, he could use that during the Summer.

He mumbled something bout how he does not have a garage and I think is kinda worried about cold starts and such. I told him I would just use the Pennzoil Conventional 5w20, as I have for over 4 yrs now.

I think he likes that he would have a true "synthetic blend" so he told me.

He's worried about cold start so he's opting for heavier weight?

He should find some 0w-20...or like you mentioned, Pennzoil Conventional 5w20 is fine

This guy sounds like a nutcase. Stay away from him or he might blame you for something that happens to his car down the road based on the advice you've given him.

Probably won't make a bit of difference whether he blends in some 5w-40 or not. Whatever makes him feel happy.

Do tell him that 5w-20 is perfectly fine, though.

Straight 5w20 would be better then a mix that ends up being an overly complicated 5w30.

I agree with poiuy223 and dparm. He's better off with 0w20 or just plain 5w20. It's a good idea to stick with synthetic oil too.

I like to blend Rotella and Pennzoil Conventional in my Jeep but this doesn't make sense to me.

This blend isn't going to hurt anything, but it isn't necessary.

Well he ended up using some Brad Penn 5W20 SM that I have, as I gave it to him. He is a ok guy, just overthinks things quite often.

Yeah, considering I got the couple cases of Brad Penn oil for like $2 a quart where my real dad lives. Currently using the Brad Penn oil in the g.f.'s 98' Civic HX also.

I'd love to see a used oil analysis on that mix after he's done with it! Pennzoil Conventional and Rotella would make a stout add pack....but probably too thick as others have stated.

Read my Sig....I'm currently running a sump of Shell Rotella and Formula Shell all in Synthetic. I'm planning on keeping this through the winter and into late Spring.

For the Summer I plan to run a blend of Mobil 1, 5w30 and Mobil Delvac, Dino Diesel, 15w40. One Gallon of Delvac and 2 quarts of M1 for the heat of the summer should do me fine.

Hey theoilgeek, he is currently using some Brad Penn 5w20 SM oil I gave him.
