I could elaborate a lot on this even more, but I'll try to keep it brief.
Car: 2012 VW Jetta SportWagen with almost 20K
Since the car was new, I've added 1 quart of B100 and ~5oz of Diesel Kleen to every fill-up, no exceptions. I'm well versed in the HPFP drama and this is my means of mitigating the issue.
While on a long drive up the east coast with my wife and 14 week old daughter, I pulled over to fill up in the middle of nowhere New Jersey, on a Sunday evening, on Mother's day. As you probably know, in New Jersey the law requires attendants to fuel gasoline vehicles. I thought it also applied to diesel vehicles though it seems it does not.
Scenario:
1) car tells me I have a 20 mile range
2) I pull off to the nearest gas station
3) before I pull up to the pump, I jump out and add 1 quart of B100 and 5oz of Diesel Kleen
4) I get back in, pull up and tell the attendant to fill it with diesel
5) baby is crying, so I get out to grab her toys from trunk
6) I see the attendant putting regular unleaded gas in the car and scream, "STOP!" As well as some other choice words.
7) after a tiff where he insists I said "regular" and I insist I said "diesel", we both push the car away from the pump.
8) I check the damage: 6.133 gallons of gas had been pumped into the car
9) I Googled the nearest VW dealer: over 100 miles away. The local wrecker quotes me $400 to flat-bed it to them.
10) I tell the attendant to call the owner and have him open the garage.
11) owner and I pull the rear seat, open the fuel tank, and pump nearly 8 gallons of diesel/B100/gasoline out of the car using a pneumatic pump
12) I added 1 quart of B100 and 1 gallon of diesel from a jerry can, then drive the car around the lot to the diesel pump (about 200 yards - felt like an eternity)
13) attendant fills it with 12.9 gallons of diesel
14) I drive it a mile and get Diesel Kleen meant to treat 40 gallons and dump the whole thing in.
As I didn't start the car, the only gasoline that could could have gone through the HPFP was any lingering remnants in the tank which was diluted with 1) at first: a gallon of D2 and a quart of B100 2) 2 minutes later: 13.9 gallons of D2 and 1 quart of B100
Long story short, I think I'm good. Thoughts?
