Greetings,

It's spring time, and I was mowing the lawn this evening. Towards the end of the job, I was hot/lazy/tired and shoved the mower under an evergreen tree. (I was thinking about cutting the lowest layer to get under there properly, but haven't yet).

Now it seems like the mower is running at 1/2 throttle. It's not studdering, or smoking at all.

I did notice a spring, which I assume is possibly a throttle or govener? If I take a look at the front of the mower, everything looks just fine.. The spring moves freely.

Before I take the thing apart (I admit I have no idea what I'm doing), clean the filter, replace the plug, and fidget with the carb, does anyone have any obvious things that would help?

Does this model of mower have an adjustable throttle? If so, did you move it by accident?

If I had to guess you probably pulled one of the little springs on the carb off (there are generally two), or some such. Not a big deal. There are parts places online that should show where those springs go.

When looking at the front of the engine (that is to say, facing the spark plug) check in front of your air filter and attached to the bracket that holds your carburetor. There might be a little slide that can be moved left to right. Moving the slide toward the engine causes speed to decrease and away causes it to increase. It's likely that a branch bumped it off of it's setting. Start the mower and have somebody hold down the idiot handle while you move the slide to see if that fixes it.
