Purolator or Wix Nascar filter?

hello guys and gals

I stumbled on this sight due to a really bad knocking in my toyota tacoma with only about 60,000 miles. with advice I got from here, I flushed it out with auto rx and started using Pennzoil Platinum and it is smooth as butter now.

So here is my next question. I am now changing my own oil and was wondering which filter you all would recommend, the Wix/Napa NAscar filter or the regular purolator? I was thinking about going for the pure one or the napa gold, but don't know if the price difference is worth it...opinions?

The Wix are excellent and I'd use them without hesitation.

Check out site sponsors for a cheaper pricing on filters, you may get a deal.

Also, since you're using good oil, no reason not to compliment it with a top-notch filter. That oil can't do its work all clogged with junk.

Use the WIX/NAPA Gold or PureOne and not the Nascar.

Napa Gold or Carquest Premium. Both are Wix filters and one of the very best filters you can buy. FleetFilter.com has great prices on the Napa Gold too. It's only my personal opinion but I do not recommend the Napa Nascar filter. I don't buy into the Spinflow thing.

If you don't have to have a Silicon ADBV and change your oil around 3K the Napa ProSelect is also an excellent filter for a really good price. It is also made by Wix and has all the same quality construction as the Napa Gold but costs about 1/3 the price.

the napa pro-select is what I was talking about...I messed up and called it the nascar filter...

Sorry about that. So I am guessing if I have the extra $$$ buy the napa gold, if not the proselect is ok??

I've had great luck with the ProSelect. I've used one for as long as 5,000 miles and it held up great.

Absolutely no issues with them thus far, plus they are priced excellent. If you're like me and change your oil between 3-5k, then a ProSelect would be an excellent choice for you. If you're going to extend your drains past 5,000 miles I'd highly recommend the Napa Gold.

I use Napa Golds on my own vehicles, mainly because I go up to one year between changes.

I use Napa ProSelects when I change oil for other people, when the change interval is up to 5,000 miles.

ThirdYe & mrsilv04 got it right. The Gold uses silicon ADBV which holds up better in longer OCI than the nitrile (unless your engine is sensitive to start-up knock).

The PurolatorPlus is nitrile like the ProSelect.

I'd use either one on best price as the filtration (beta's) are probably not much different between all of these filters.

If your really annal find some teardowns of various brands of your particular filter so you can see subtle differences. Each filter has strengths/weaknesses but all will do the job.

thanks, I think that I will probably just decide with NAPA pro-select for both my wife's hyundai and my toyota.
