Purolator ONE Oil filter Question

What are you expecting as a return of using a "best " filter? You want a filter that doesn't fail and besides the important filter is the air filter and its seal in the air filter box and no air or vacuum leaks
Oh my bad Best in better compared to PL14610 vs PL14459

As noted correctly by fellow members, the spec filter for topic Honda is the 7317/14610/(5)7356 filter application. Having a fair amount of experience with diy Honda oil and filter change (including a V6) that's the filter application size I would go with.

And without seeing the exact location of 08 V6 filter, starting in 08 many Honda models have engine/pan restriction that prevent installation of the wider 9688/3593a/14459 application. So, if you're intent on using that application, better check first to make sure it will install.

That said, I go by the first statement here. Use the 14610/7317 application size. The small gain in filter oil volume really insignificant in any engine life consideration.
Thanks so much spot on advice. I appreciate that you took your time and explained it so perfectly. Right on Bro

Not overthink just wanted to know which is better
Well like he said, what is the definition of better? For me that means filtering efficiency and no history of demonstrated defects such as media tearing. I'm not sure what other definitions exist but perhaps there are some.

I am the expert.

I would run down to Walmart and grab a Supertech filter for your Accord.
What would your reasoning be on that?

ST filters are a great deal for $3, but use a nitrile anti-drainback valve and have a posted filtering efficiency of 99% at 30 microns. I would at least spring for a MP7317 for a silicone ADBV.

As an alternative, Fram PH7317's have a silicone anti-drainback valve and 95% efficiency at 20 microns, or a TG7317 or XG7317 for 99% efficiency at 20 microns if you're going to walmart.

The louvered center tubes on Purolators should always be visually inspected for purchase, but the PurolatorOne line has not been known for tearing media and seem like a safe pick.

I'll disagree here. Yes, the boss may have stronger media due to the backing but the filtering media way less efficient than the standard or pureone filter. Horrible efficiency in my book, 99% at 46 microns on the filter for my vehicles and it isn't a paper filtering media. Since they updated the pureone media recently, tearing has not been prevalent.
Not sure if this makes any difference, and I am not familiar with the filtering efficiency or specifications of the filters. My observation was based on the physical appearance of the filter paper quality and pleating, which is not a scientific measurement at all. I just shopped this photo from my recent clear oil filter video which shows the filter elements from the Purolators that I used for my 05 Scion TC. For the record the only difference between the Purolator line was just the filter media, the internals were exactly the same between all of them.

I'll follow-up here. How can you claim what is best based only off of an observation and not knowing how to interpret the specifications when looking at oil filters? Build quality, efficiency, purpose are just a few aspects of filters and is not so cut and dry when trying to determine which filter is "best".

That's what my follow up comment was about, just a non scientific observation, no support to say its best other than marketing and a casual observation of the media. I guess what looks higher quality or sturdier isn't always technically better. I'm sure any of these will be fine in an accord.
