Hello, I'm new to the group but have been a lurker for a long time. I have a 1996 Honda VFR750F that I usually run a Purolator L14610 on, but at my last oil change the store was out of the 14610 so I went with the powersport model designated for my engine.

The oil used was Delo 400 LE 5W40, I don't get to ride as much as I used to and only managed 1,100 miles on this OCI. I know that I could have gone longer however I am not comfortable keeping the oil in there longer than a year so I change annually whether it needs it or not

I thought the can was well made and I have no complaints about what I found inside. When I changed the oil this season I used the L14610 so with luck I'll be able to get it cut and posted next season. BTW I used Rotella T 15W40 this year, doesn't seem right using a synthetic for so few miles.

Doesn't look bad. I wonder if Purolator has "Hi-Flo" or someone similar make their PowerSport oil filters. Does it say on the label where the filter was made?

I see it has a coil spring to hold the guts tight, and a "P-ring" style base gasket. Those are not used on any passenger car filters that Purolator manufactures in the USA from what I've seen.

The only location I can see on the label is Purolator LLC Fayetteville, NC. It is definitely put together different than the L14610.

I noticed the glue job too, but it did hold together.

Don't bother cutting open another filter with only 1100 miles on it. Any low-grade and low-priced filter will do its job with only that mileage on it.

Changing your oil and filter at 1100 miles, is just a waste of $$$ and good resources. If I were you, I would do an OCI every 2 years instead of one. Hopefully you do several 30 to 40 mile highway runs each year to burn off any H2O and fuel that might have entered the oil.

Saints preserve us, another Purolator without any tears! This is madness!!!

Good looking filter, thanks for the cut and post!

Has bypass valve? From Purolator site they say to not use the auto pure one due to high efficiency and the oil pump. First time I heard that.

^^^ As mentioned, the PowerSports had a coil spring instead of a leaf spring, has a P-ring instead of a flat base gasket, and the media definitely looks different.

My main curiosity was for the construction compared to the Classic, I thought others might be curious about the same and that wouldn't matter whether it had 0 miles or 10K.

Believe me, I'd rather put more miles on the bike in any given year but between a ridiculous work schedule, family and other hobbies, I run out of time pretty quickly. My rides vary between 150 miles to 400 miles so I think I've got the 30-40 miles beat.

Slowdime, I ride through Cascadia almost every time I go out on the bike, I like Highway 20 through there. I usually stop up above you a little ways at the Lost Prairie campground to rest my backside

Dont pay any attention to him. 1k miles on a motorcycle filter isn't the same as 1k miles on a car filter. Keep cutting and posting. That is the best part about this site

Hence the need for a steady stream of cut filter pictures! Especially of Purolators that didn't fail. Those pictures are worth a thousand posts

Actually, to be correct, a PHOTO is worth a thousand words.

So Purolator *can* make a filter with straight pleats!

Other than the couple of gaps in pleating that's a nice looking filter.
