I have this red Purolator with date code F01004E2.

BTW while searching for answers on this code I saw Mann spec sheets being discussed a good while back. One had the classic beating the higher models.
I wish people would have told me this was a topic long ago before I went down my spec sheets journey in another thread. And yes I do appreciate the efforts to find any kind of information. One of my first thoughts is I appreciate the efforts and time spent on posts. This one took no time barely. Just a bunch of writing.

Here is the filter, I ordered it yesterday for $5.99 on Amazon and it got here tonight. L14476, the 50 micron spec sheets journey one I just find out about.

Seems like a very nice filter, good louvers, silicone adbv, bypass not part of the leaf spring. The quest for USA made, but also well made, goes on.

Yeah, that 4th digit from left being a number instead of a letter throws things off.
Yes, it looks like a zero, and has the right Purolator date code format. In the past Purolator didn't use the letters I, O and Q. But maybe they changed that and started using the letter O and just used a zero for it.

Chat w/Purolator and let us know any conclusion. I've had some odd ball filter stamping from both Purolator & Fram before (Cartridge).

Could be but I would have expected the dot matrix font they are using to have a different curvature for the "O" to distinguish it. Online search though does show some systems using the same font for both zero and "O" or having the zero slashed through but that is not the case here.

They could have used the zero for the letter "O" for some reason - punched in wrong by operator, machine doesn't do an "O", etc. They never used the "O" before for the year code, but may have changed that practice now. That would slip the year made one year on the date code table in the sticky thread.

Reply received, it’s a date code defect. We talked to the warranty dept and you can return the filter and we will send you a new one. We will pay shipping both ways. Then a blank claim form to fill out.
Like this is not going to happen for $6.

A date code defect…well at least it’s not performance related!

Not impressed with defect return process. I only wanted to know about the code. I can return it to Amazon very easily, but a return that has nothing to do with the code.

So did they tell you what the build date was based on that erroneous date code?

Would be significantly cheaper to just ship you a new filter. You already provided them a clear picture of the date code defect.

Strange......

Send it to me. I go to that plant quite a bit (we had a contract with them for a while, don't think we do now.) I'll go complain and get you a case!

LOL

I guess they were trying to cover all bases and not get someone exploding over a date code error. It would take time and materials plus travel to send it back to end up with the same, or one with closed louvers and then it goes in the garbage can.
