Do a quote on my post and look at the text to see how it's done.

Thank you zeeosix!!!

I had to cut this open with a cut off wheel which left a bit of shavings. It is all I had at the time. Filter came off my Tacoma with 4700 miles on this oil change interval. Also used GTX 5w30 on this OCI. If someone knows how to decipher the date code please let me know. There is a small tear left of the seam on one picture. I did this upon inspection. It seemed to be in pretty good shape. The pleats are very brittle though. This is my first one to cut open. Apologies for using a cut off wheel.

No problem! That Classic is pretty new date code: 7-6-2015. Ouch ... still tearing!

So much for the newer ones are fixed.

Keep in mind it tore while I was inspecting. I was trying to spread the pleat a bit and it tore on me. It was not torn until I pushed on it. The pleats did seem very brittle though.

It would see to me that an integral part of the solution to media tearing issues on Purolators would be to get rid of the brittle media. I guess that lesson isn't obvious enough for some corporate entities.

Another reason to support a filter change with every oil change. The notion of leaving a filter on for 2 oil changes has its drawbacks. But, let's first make sure they can make it through one full oil change interval.

Obviously the solution to the problem is to change the logo, get a new slogan and paint them Red, Blue and Something resembling filthy oil with metal flakes in it.

Dude, chill and don't get nasty and personal - not becoming. Yeah, obviously I missed it.

Doesn't mean the problem is fixed, as the media is still brittle which is part of the failure formula.

Just can't keep your glee under control can you.

OP stated he tore the brittle media.

Your bias is showing....

^^^ Read the whole thread ... I said I missed it. Your bias always shows.

And besides, who's not biased about tearing oil filters except for blind fanboys? LoL

My concern, however, remains ignored. How is this supposedly fixed or acceptable if the media is still brittle? This is an oil filter, not a stale cookie.

It would have been easier to admit and fix the tearing problem versus changing the exterior appearance.

Good point, and exactly what I was thinking after reading the thread.
