Those choked off louvers will impede oil flow through out the engine. You will then be relying on the bypass for flow. Hopefully they designed the bypass valve better than those louvers.

.. These... plus the out of place pinched adbv.. This guy knew to check but what about the untold number of customers who just grab these and screw them on ?? .. I wonder what happens ?

Louvers not being visibly open to the eye, viewed from the assembled threaded hole is not exactly scientific. If the louvers are not open at all it's because the die section that presses the profile is worn down from lack of die maintenance in the stamping operation.
In all louvers are a better stamping situation versus pierced holes. The stamper is saving money when using louvers, that they don't maintain this section of the stamping die is PURE NEGLECT.

Those louvers are badly formed and choked off. Look closely at just these ... there's barely a tiny slit formed half way across the length of the louvrs in the metal were oil is suppose to flow.
It's the best and only way to judge them before buying or using a filter. Just need to know what you're looking for.
Badly formed? Yes they don't look good. But such a terrible view. Need better pictures, because I don't jump to conclusions from a picture or two. I've been involved with photographic evidence for far too long.
Choked off? You are writing this. SO- Tell us how much.
Enough to damage the engine? Twist the media? Guessing now??
Choked off way too much for me to put on any engine I own - those are bad. If someone thinks those are great formed louvers, then go for it. Would you use a louvered filter like shown in post 15?
In the game of louver inspection for me, it needs to give me a positive "go". If the slits are very narrow it's a "no-go" for me. Everyone can make their own judgment, but I've looked at enough louvers to know what's going to make me install it and ones that will be rejected.

I remember the now glorified older Fram Ultra having the middle of the center tube solid, with holes on each side, not that many holes. But more than enough. It doesn’t make media wavy. This is an XG3614 which maybe doesn’t have
the solid space, but can be seen how few holes there are. My last one.

Send a lab lots of cash if you want test data. I've ran flow vs dP models, and really choked down louvers are going to cause high dP across the media/center tube and put the filter in bypass most of the time. Not what I want on any of my engines. So only what I deem as well formed louvers get uses. But I'm now switched over to PGI make filter with big holes in the center tube, so hassle now gone.
I ran dP vs flow numbers on a Fram PH7317 center tube like that, and the dP with hot oil (15 cSt) was only around 0.12 PSI at 10 GPM. Even though the holes look small and few, their total area was still ~11% of the total area of the center tube.

That’s obvious but I responding to this post - and know many others were conclusions made with a full tear down of the filter …
Besides, a better indication of louver slit openings can be made by looking on the inside of the center tube, not on the back side.
