Received 6 Purolator Boss filters (14612) directly from the manufacturer.
2 of the 6 had pinched off louvers, 1 was acceptable, and 3 were normal. I was surprised at the amount of dust/debris inside each box. Small pieces of cardboard paper looking bits and a finger full of dust. The box states 15k Service interval instead of the normal 20k. Not sure how I feel about Purolator at this point. Might try Fram Ultra or go back to OEM Nissan. Just thought I would share. :)

Some applications may still be rated for 15k & not the 20k. Otherwise, the louvers certainly shouldn't be closed but Purolator has plenty of them & your pic is not too bad. I'd use them unless I'm not seeing the worst one? Not sure what the material is in the box?

Thank you for sharing, my thought is just use the cheapest oil filter you can get and change it every 5000 miles. Let us give Purolator a break here since they were the 1st with an Oil Filter, then again that was what the Purolator commercial said!

If they were the first, then they should be the most knowledgeable and be able to make the best. 😄

I should ask you to make an Oil Filter, and you know what that oil filter is because for whatever reason it is not available now. Let us talk about the best, the only ones that would appreciate what I am talking about are you and me and a few members that read every post in the Oil Filter Section.

Date code P is 2022, April, all mine are 2024 or 2025, much better than those. Although there is the back side of the louvers on these that may be better. Even what you show would work, but I wouldn’t accept it. Mine were clean boxes, etc, I have a few more coming in. These are all I will ever use now that I saw the media and construction. Return or replace.

PGI supplied filters are quickly becoming the "best" (at least here), and they now have a few filters with nylon mesh backed full synthetic media with pretty high efficiency and up to 20K mile use rating, and have no louvers or internal leak paths due to their design. Think PGI knew the OG Ultra was a popular filter, and now have come up with their own filter of that caliber.

I find the Boss very acceptable and is USA.

You're right, I forgot to check the date code. This is probably why they were on special for $4 ea.
This may also explain why the boxes are a more metallic looking design and its rating is 15k and not 20k.
