After doing a search I’ve read that Purflux filters seem to be pretty good.

They are now used on some of the older Mercedes engines. They are sold for the M103 engine for sure.

I’ve previously used Mann, Mahle, Bosch, or Knecht filters.

From the Purflux website they say: “ PURFLUX’s Research and Development teams have, over a 40 year period, gained complete mastery of media processing technologies with both chevron and straight pleating. They have taken this to a higher level still, with their recently developed curve pleat”

My question is are the Purflux filters better than what I was using? They certainly are much smaller that the ones I’ve been using, like at least 25% smaller.

My only experience with them were the cartridge elements I was finding in Delco, Hastings, and yes, I actually snuck out of Wally's with orange boxes containing them. I used the Wally's self check out and hoped people were distracted by the dog and wouldn't notice. Please don't tell anybody that Labman bought Fram filters after coming here. For all their fancy chevron pleating, they only had 138 sq. in media as 143 for STP. Note, now using the much cheaper Purolator with 130 sq. in media. Any fool can determine how much media a filter has. Much harder to determine quality of the media.

Thanks for the link. The filters are not that expensive from my source, $6.75 each. It seems that they will be fine.

GM was using Purflux cartridge filters for their 2.2L Ecotec engines back in 03. I use to pick them up at a Chevy dealer for my 03 Saab 9-3. Then they switched to a Hengst filter. Now they use a Korean made filter for this application.

Peugeot at one time recommended a specific Purflux spin-on filter in addition to the Peugeot brand in the owner's manual for the '84's 505 diesel engine. The OEM Peugeot filter mounted to the engine at delivery stated something along the lines of, "Fabrique au Purflux", or some such, in small lettering as near as I can remember. I used Frams for the seven years I had the car. Dunno what my "ex" used after the judge awarded her the car - didn't much care, either.
