pureone is 5.99 each, pep boys has a coupon for 2 purolator premiums for 5.00.

is the pureone really worth double?

i inspected both, the premium has black rubber seals, the pure one has a red/orangeish harder feeling (silicon?) feeling seals.
but what about the guts? worth double or not?
if doing a 5k OCI then what?

if the pureone is worth double, will it go double the miles?

The Pure One is better than the Premium in a couple ways;

The Pure One has a silicon ADBV which is less likely to get hard with age. So, if you do long OCI's that would be a good reason to go with the Pure One.

The other difference is that the media for the Pure One filters finer particles. Some say that that would inhibit flow, but I think the flow is still fine with the Pure One.

So, in summary the Pure One is a better filter and it is still not too expensive. It is just up to you whether it is worth the upgrade.

It's a toss up. The Pure one is much better, but it's hard to put a value on how much. Either will be fine for 5k.

"Feel good" factor, mainly - aka, the "P.T. Barnum" factor. Premium filters are priced anywhere from 3/4 more to double the price of the standard range, and probably cost the manufacturer less than half a buck more to make.

PurOne is a bargan. It has specs about the same as a Mobil 1 or a K&N for much less.

I also agree that the Premium is more than adequate for 99% of customer use.

The only think the K&N and Mobil 1 filters ahve in common is the high price. K&N is an "average" filter while the Purolator Pure One and Mobil 1 are "excellent" filters. Refer to the Grease study for the "numbers".
