I was out looking for a nice dress shirt yesterday and long story short, when I told the salesman what the occasion was he recommended a suit. After I saw how I looked in it I couldn't resist so I purchased it without hesitation.

I ended up purchasing the following:

Jack Victor Blazer - $400
GS (DXL Big and Tall brand) Dress Shirt - $66
GS Dress Slacks $66

The total came out to right around $570, not counting the Dress shoes I ordered online.

I'm not familiar with pricing on suits and Dress Clothes, did I get a fair deal?

If you like the way it looks and you are happy with it you did okay.
Yeah and from a quick search online Jack Victor has a very good quality to price ratio. It appears the price is fair. I was just concerned they marked the Blazer up quite a bit.

I have one suit. I got married in it in 1983. I told my wife to bury me in it..... You insert the date. I go with a suit about as much as an elevator in an outhouse.
Well I've got younger cousins who may get married one day, I'll be returning to my grandfather's old church he took us grandkids too when he was still around. So I've got plenty of events to wear it to.

Sounds about right. My first suit was purchased at Marshall's - it is an Emanuel Ungaro that retailed for $1200 and I bought it for $200 about 25 years ago. I've worn it to countless interviews, weddings, funerals, date nights, and it still fits like a glove, it still looks great, and I still wear it frequently. I still have the blue blazer I was married in 20 years ago and it has gotten A LOT of use over the years and it still looks perfect. Buy quality when you can - it makes a difference and they can last a very long time.

Notes on comfort:

Suits that use fused construction which is what you typically find at places like Kohls, suck.
Fused suits feel awful.

I have two suits. The last suit I bought has a half canvassed lapel and feels much better than my older suit which has a fused lapel.

I have no clue which style it is in regards to construction. But it's very comfortable.

Yes indeed, you did just fine!;) (y)
Could you have $pent le$$?...SURE!
But, would you look as good?...Mmmm, maybe!
However, you could have certainly $PENT WAAAAAAAAAY MORE...And I mean, well into the THOU$AND$.

Now, you mentioned that you have shoes on order? That's GREAT!
What about the tie?
And don't forget a wrist watch. Nothing gaudy. Something that slips under the cuff. Doesn't need to be expensive.

I've already got a tie that will go with the suit, and I didn't even think of a wrist watch. Thank you.

Nailed it! Many of those types of suits are either cut for the "larger than average" guy or Euro skinny. Men's Warehouse offers a good selection. Key is they also have, at least the 2 stores within 20 miles of me, legitimate tailors. I found a Calvin Klien grey that the tailor cut perfectly. Wide shoulders, no, no real V (that ship has sailed ) but I need the shoulders to fit and the bottom taken in. Makes a world of difference in the look when it is tailored to your specific body.

I'm a larger than average guy. 335 lbs on a tall and wide frame.

And I was mistaken, after searching for the tag I have found that the Blazer is actually a Suit Jacket.

Jack Victor tall/wide is good to go. You'll notice when you sit down and it falls correctly instead of bunching up.

For one single event, only spend $25-$30 or le$$, on a cheap watch that looks great from 10 ft away. Especially if the watch will only sit on a dresser/night stand for the next 364 days. A watch that gets noticed only when your arm is extended is all you want when wearing a suit.

Large man's sizes carry a premium. Upping the quality in those sizes really ups the price tag.
The quality of the material inside and out..... the construction method. It all adds up.
I bought a navy blue suit during a sale at Jos. A. Bank for $300 a while back (15 yrs.?) and it's often the best looking suit in the room.

The jewelry industry says the diamond you buy your girl should equal 3 months salary (or is it 3 years?).
Another adage says a good man's suit should equal the cost of an ounce of gold.
Ask me where I think both parties should go with their "wisdoms".

Seriously, a wrist watch is a necessary part of a guy in a suit? I never heard that.

Difficult to say because we dont know what material you actually bought.

If it fits well and has enough left to go in and out a bit you probably did ok. You don't want a suits that cant grow or shrink a bit like you will.

When you have a tailor or custom made suit vs off the rack what you find is the labor to make the suit is constant and the price is directly related to material quality. The exact same style suit can be 500 or 5000 all depending on material.

The type of wool and the twist count are the main factors.

Take a look at the inner label and see what material info you can get from it.

Does the jacket have a few extra buttons sewn in?
