I went to Wal-mart and all they had for my car was the Purolater classic filter.
I like to push the oci out to 7k or 8k using synthetic oil.
Will this basic filter do the job?

I threw all kind of low end filters, from Puro Classic to OCOD, in my 350+k miles LS400 up ward 14-16k miles (may be once or twice up to 18k miles). I didn't cut open filters, the engine is still running along without problem. The most expensive filter it had was Pure 1 when I bought a bunch with discount code from AAP.

In a clean engine, any filter can be in service up ward 15-16k miles or a little longer.

Its your car do what you want, but I would not run a Classic past 5K miles. Too many with torn media...they are under $4 its just not worth the risk.

Hey look, some common sense advice on BITOG! Thank you!

It's good to see a post from someone who is not a Dave Newton nuthugger.

I no longer use this filter. After cutting several used ones (4k miles) I did not like the wavy, uneven and torn pleats which I saw. Noisy startups as well. Recently ran a Napa Pro Select for 7K miles, cut open and was impressed with what I saw. I will post pics soon.I would go with WIX.

That would be the same common sense of said poster that dumps the sump of a quality synthetic Pennzoil Ultra at a 3k mile oci. And one who opines that the Honda rock catcher ~66%@20um A02 is the best option to run in a Honda in lieu of other more efficient quality aftermarket alternatives for the same or less money. And who consistently posts negative thoughts of Purolator filters with the typical chicken little post shown here.

As for the topic, for $3.27 the Classic with nitrile adbv is a solid value for a standard 5k oci. As seen here though, many have successfully run them much farther. 'For me' considering cost-benefit/ROI 7.5K mi. oci would be in the area of the max range for the Classic.

I've been using my filter(often) for 2 OCI's lately(did this in the 60's & 70's). In the 80's, with all of the rebates and low cost of oil & filters, I changed at each OCI.

My engine oil looks clean and when I have cut open the filters after 2 OCI's, they look fine though the pleats are wavey as in most lower end filters.

I use Puro Classic(P1's as well) due to cost, availability, ratings, and the fact that two of our vehicles takes the same filter #, and both are hard to access, I bought a cup style filter wrench that fits the Puro's ONLY and makes life easier.

Interesting. few years ago, i bought a napa white can, pro select and used it, on a 95 neon. 3 months and 980 miles later, changed oil, cut filter open..the media was wavy. really wavy:/ ive cut open frams, fram tough guards, xtraguards, acdelcos, bosch..and they never were wavy. plus it had that weird oil adapter thingy where it threads on.
Bought a pureone and a calssis is it? newer purolators now sold..never opeend one yet. i had the opposite efffect you did, regarding napa pro selects.

Could be app specific or, just your luck!

A Purolator Classic should easily last this long. Heck, if Honda thinks an A02 (made by Fram) should last 20k, it should be a cakewalk for a Purolator.
