Since the neckage went awry I have not been so sharp in the brain function. That is to say I'm quite drained trying to do the critical stuff right. My work hasn't suffered, thank goodness. The boss keeps trying to tell me to slow down. I'm keeping the Amsoil stuff up OK. Home life is OK, but my wife is handling a huge burden, including mowing the lawn. I'm physically useless. That part sucks.

So anyway - my question. Paypal is not my favorite - but their money market is paying a great rate, and it's very convenient for my lameness. So I'm keeping money there, plus I'm sneaking money into the account as well - from our checking account (not telling the CFO). Is this rational behavior?

It's not a lot of money really, I was just wondering anyone had any bad stories to share. I don't exactly love Paypal for their fees and some sales transaction goofiness, but the savings stuff doesn't involve that.

Pablo, have you seen a good neurologist? I'm not familiar with Paypal.

Pablo, if I didn't have a separate checking acct the wife would blow ALL my money$$$. I don't think there's anything wrong with hiding money as long as you're paying your share of the household bills. Although I'm not actually hiding (wife knows exactly what's in my savings acct. but she can't get to it).

PayPal has had security issues in the past, but then again, who hasn't.

I read about www.emigrantdirect.com in Reader's digest and stuck my money in there....pays higher than www.ingdirect.com
since then, i've read several articles about ED (emigrant direct, not erectile dysfunction) and havne't heard anything bad yet.

however, funneling money without the CFO knowing is illegal for corporations and deadly for institutions like marriage.

There is where I'm trying to go....I don't mean go as in passed, but moneywise, figuratively speaking.

Good for Dear Madre.

yeah those pay pretty good - I was surprised to find PP right up there. I just don't feel like opening another account. A guy at work is an emigrantdirect nut, wear the hat and T-shrt all the time.

Is paypal actually a "bank" with FDIC insurance etc?

Last I heard they were an unregulated "funnel" like Western Union... you could have money there like an "account" and they have routing numbers etc that let you do transfers, but that's it for security.

The money sits in FDIC insured bank accounts that paypal has, but your actual account with paypal is not FDIC insured I believe.
